Beau my God

In this all new episode of BMG, host Beau Bradley (they/he) jumps back into The Queer Alphabet discussing the Q in LGBTQIA+, and how it stands for both Queer and Questioning. In today's episode, Beau focuses on Q is for Queer walking through the history of the term, the turmoil over it within the queer community, and more starting in the 16th century. To expand upon the feelings behind the term, Beau reads excerpts from a Them article entitled, 9 LGBTQ+ People Explain How They Love, Hate, and Understand the Word “Queer,” because how better to explain such a nuanced term, and conglomerate of perspectives and identities, than with many, many perspectives!

Then, Beau then chats health and wellness by walking through some tips and tricks to help when you're feeling overwhelmed. this portion of the podcast ends with a 5-10 minute self-led activity, for you to better prepare for the next time you're feeling overwhelmed by jotting down what is taking up your brain space, prioritizing the things you can change and that have time deadlines, listing out different things that can help when you need to step away, and who to call when you are feeling down.

#39 - A New Kind of Feeling for Social Media with Aydian Dowling

On today's episode of Beau my God, host Beau Bradley (he/they), sits down with transgender activist and CEO of TRΔCE - a transition recording and community engagement mobile application for Transgender and Non-Binary folks, and their allies; and co-founder of the all volunteer non-profit, Point of Pride, Aydian Dowling (he/him) to discuss all of the things just mentioned.
The pair start out by discussing TRΔCE, including what it's for, how conversations began for the app in 2016, taking about three years to conceptualize and build out the platform, and how it was conceptualized out of Aydian's need to document his own Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) journey. The conversation refocuses around the community that the app has been fostering including how the group of folks (trans, nonbinary, and allies) on the app have a general baseline understanding of where you are coming from, allowing it to be a safer space from the get go. Aydian also shares how TRΔCE is the social media equivalent to pride, or a gay club. It is a space where all folks can feel comfortable to ask questions and grow together.
“TRΔCE offers:

  • A customizable dashboard that tracks important elements of someone’s transition, such as photos, voice, anniversaries, medication reminders and more.
  • A network of fellow Trans and Non-binary folx and allies that can provide support and share experiences in a safe place, unlike current social media platforms where Trans and Non-binary folx experience hate-speech, harassment and harmful anti-lgbt advertising.
  • An opportunity for allies to grow their allyship through thoughtful connection, and support for their Trans and Non-binary loved ones. A Trevor Project study showed that the support of just one affirming adult in the life of a Trans or Non-binary person reduces suicide attempts by 40%. “

Aydian then discusses Point of Pride, a 100% trans and nonbinary run non-profit co-founded with his friend Jeff Main that provides life-changing health care access to gender diverse folks. And also shares some insight into what it has been like to become a father!

#41 - 'My Defiance Saved my Life' with Andi Ramirez

Today's all new episode of Beau my God features special guest, Amanda Ramirez (she/her), an HR professional working in tech and is a volunteer and member of the board of directors for CHEER Seattle, a local LGBTQIA+ nonprofit, who joins us to chat all things growing up in a religious household!
Religion is something we have yet to cover on BMG, so settle in with your snack because this is going to be a good episode filled with lots of feelings, growth, and retrospective insight.
Amanda openly shares her experience growing up in a household where religion trumped autonomy, and coming out resulted in conversion therapy - something that is still legal here in the U.S. and in countries around the globe. The pair discuss how religion is generational and that its traumas associated with guilt and shame protrude menacingly into adulthood.
They also discuss setting boundaries with your parents, vacation bible school, and Beau shares an inside joke on how this episode was almost entitled, "Beau my Gosh."
