How to Develop as an Artist

19-year-old songstress Abigail Barlow not only recognizes what she wants, but where she’s going—and she’s headed there at lightspeed, bringing fans everywhere along the way. She took the first step on that path as a child. Growing up in Birmingham, AL, her doctor dad played piano and immediately served as an endless source of inspiration. Soon, she personally picked up piano and devoured records by everyone from Elton John and Amy Winehouse to Tori Kelly, Lorde, and Alessia Cara. Driven towards a career in music as early as middle school, her ambition drew the ire of jealous classmates and resulted in a rough period marked by incessant bullying. Abigail continually paved her own path though. She opted for homeschooling and achieved a diploma online to kick off her career even sooner. Instead of just lip-syncing, she uploaded actual covers to Musical.ly and built a following of 600K-plus on the platform. An early adopter of YouNow, she attracted over 60K fans and garnered a nomination for “YouNower of the Year” at the 2017 Shorty Awards. Relocating to Los Angeles, she put all of her energy into carving out a distinct, diverse, and dynamic sound introduced by the single “Emotional.” - Rick Florino, Written On Time.

Top Tips for DJs

At just 20 years old, Owen Norton is already an accomplished producer.

His remix for Flo Rida released in 2016 was the first of many high profile mixes Owen would go on to release. From remixes for The Chainsmokers, to Selena Gomez to R3HAB, Norton has his foot set firmly in the dance music scene.

With a string of original releases in 2016 and 2017 proving Owen’s versatility, it only made sense that he would be approached by the likes of Columbia and Interscope Records to remix ‘Sick Boy’ and ‘Wolves’. Summer 2018 was a big one, seeing the release of ‘Hold On Tight’ (remix for R3HAB & Conor Maynard), which was streamed over 10 million times.

2019 kicked off with an official remix for Jonas Blue, that was premiered on the Ultra Miami mainstage, and was a staple in Jonas’ sets, being played at Wembley Stadium and Tomorrowland. It wasn’t long until Norton started to tour himself, making his international debut on a 7 city tour in China. His energetic performances saw him play around Europe too, playing prestigious venues like Pacha and Victoria Warehouse.

Shortly about to drop is his first solo single in 2 years. From here Owen plans to set the pace with a release schedule that will see him unveiling a lot of creative output in the coming months, alongside a touring schedule that in time will no doubt have his name climbing up international billing ladders. So stay close by because Owen Norton is about to go far and wide!

Advice from Rise Against

Rise Against is an American punk rock band from Chicago, formed in 1999. The group's current line-up comprises vocalist/rhythm guitarist Tim McIlrath, lead guitarist Zach Blair, bassist Joe Principe and drummer Brandon Barnes. Rooted in hardcore punk and melodic hardcore, Rise Against's music emphasizes melody, catchy hooks, an aggressive sound and playstyle, and rapid tempos. Lyrically, the band is known for their outspoken social commentary, covering a wide range of topics such as political injustice, animal rights, humanitarianism, and environmentalism.

The band spent its first four years signed to the independent record label Fat Wreck Chords, on which they released two studio albums, The Unraveling (2001) and Revolutions per Minute (2003). Both the albums were met with underground success, and in 2003 the band signed with the major label Dreamworks, which was absorbed by Geffen. Rise Against's major label debut Siren Song of the Counter Culture (2004) brought the band mainstream success, largely in part to the popularity of the singles "Give It All" and "Swing Life Away". The band's next album, The Sufferer & the Witness (2006), peaked at number ten on the Billboard 200 in the United States, and was Rise Against's first album to chart in countries outside of North America.

With the release of Appeal to Reason (2008), Rise Against's music shifted toward a more accessible and radio-friendly sound, with greater emphasis on production value. The album's third single, "Savior", broke the record for the most consecutive weeks spent on both the Hot Rock Songs and Alternative Songs charts. Rise Against's popularity grew with the release of Endgame (2011), which peaked at number two on the Billboard 200, and charted highly worldwide. The band's 7th and 8th albums, The Black Market (2014) and Wolves (2017) continued the trend of commercial success, and both peaked with the top ten on the Billboard 200.
