Next up from us at Back to the Future HQ is the latest in our ICON series of mixes. Previously we have dedicated full mixes to both the Rufige Kru and Calibre. These mixes are our tribute to artists that have demonstrated consistent quality and longevity in production. In our view there are only a few of these working in our scene. ... and this time we turn our attentions to the force that is Break. Now, regular listeners will know that we consider ourselves aficionados of this artist... you could call us Breakologists or more likely Breakaholics, so this has been a true labour of love. Due to the sheer weight of output from this man we have decided to ‘break’ this series into 3 parts. These will appear over the next year. The first part of this trilogy is ‘Break – The Remixes’. Here we look at his ability to refresh and transform music from many sources. Often it’s a Drum and Bass remix of a Drum and Bass track, though with seamless ease he can tackle different genres and still maintain the edge and funk that defines his production style. The 30 tracks start from 2005 and run right up to this year and show his evolving styles through the years and of course respect and consideration to the source material. The dictionary says that an icon is ‘A person or thing regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration’.
