Reminders about sharing your child’s diagnosis:

  1. It is not your responsibility to manage your family’s response.
  2. You will discover who you can share openly with and with whom you will need to limit details.
  3. Don’t forget to be respectful to your child and their privacy when sharing videos or info in order to help others understand.
  4. Google “children’s books about autism” for stories you can share with your child.
  5. Seek the help of a counselor who can help you navigate grief, healthy boundaries and dealing with difficult or intrusive family members and friends.
  6. There is no “right way” to do this.
