Authors In Your Pocket Show 11/16/06 Jon Katz, A Good Dog (Graphically Enhanced)
11/16/06 • -1 min
From the moment Katz and Orson meet, when the dog springs from his traveling crate at Newark airport and panics the baggage claim area, their relationship is deep, stormy, and loving. At two years old, Katz’s new companion is a great herder of school buses, a scholar of refrigerators, but a dud at herding sheep. Everything Katz attempts–obedience training, herding instruction, a new name, acupuncture, herb and alternative therapies–helps a little but not enough, and not for long.
While Katz is trying to help his dog, Orson is helping him, shepherding him toward a new life on a two-hundred-year-old hillside farm in upstate New York. There, aided by good neighbors and a tolerant wife, hip-deep in sheep, chickens, donkeys, and more dogs, the man and his canine companion explore meadows, woods, and even stars, wade through snow, bask by a roaring wood stove, and struggle to keep faith with each other. There, with deep love, each embraces his unfolding destiny.
A GOOD DOG is a book to savor... Just as Orson was the author’s lifetime dog, his story is a lifetime treasure...poignant, timeless, and powerful...

Authors In Your Pocket Show 10/31/06 Jan Underwood, Day Shift Werewolf (Graphically Enhanced)
Featuring Jan Underwood, discussing her debut novel, DAY SHIFT WEREWOLF, the creepy and comic winner of the 28th Annual International 3-Day Novel Contest.
Happy Halloween from the TriCom PodSquad...
In this hilarious spin on the traditional horror genre, an unproductive werewolf, a claustrophobic mummy, a freewheeling zombie, a demon with a hidden human and other incompetent monsters struggle to find new truth in life on the dark side. Jan Underwood's first published novel is a genre busting and unique piece of fiction, and a classic example of the kind of originality inspired by the 3 Day Novel Contest.

Authors In Your Pocket Show 11/19/06 Midwest Literary Festival "On the Road Series", Episode One (Graphically Enhanced)
Episode One - Midwest Literary Festival "On the Road" series
We are proud to introduce the special twelve segment Authors In Your Pocket(tm) “On The Road” series featuring the authors and literary professionals at the 4th Annual Midwest Literary Festival which took place the weekend of September 16th and 17th, 2006.
Episode one of this series will feature Midwest Literary Festival author liaison Henry Perez, Nancy Bush's ELECTRIC BLUE, Michael A. Black's FREEZE ME TENDER and Judy Merrill Larsen's ALLTHE NUMBERS.
Nancy Bush is the author of more than three dozen novels in various genres. She has also worked as a breakdown writer on the daytime favorite, All My Children. Nancy’s newest novel, ELECTRIC BLUE, is the second in the Jane Kelly series of romantic mysteries, following Candy Apple Red. In this second smash outing, Nancy’s wickedly funny heroine, Jane Kelly, proves herself a worthy successor to Stephanie Plum, but with a wit, style, and dog that are definitely all her own.
Michael A. Black is a former Army Military Policeman, who entered civilian law enforcement after his discharge, and for the past twenty-seven years has been a police officer in the south suburbs of Chicago. The author of over forty articles on subjects ranging from police work to popular fiction, he has also had over thirty short stories published in various anthologies and magazines, including Ellery Queen and Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine. His novels include FREEZE ME TENDER, A Killing Frost, Windy City Knights, and The Heist, a thriller set in Chicago.
In ALL THE NUMBERS, author Judy Merrill Larsen skillfully takes us through every parent’s worst nightmare as she brilliantly explores, through fiction, how love makes us vulnerable and how very isolating yet very human is the desire for revenge. A trial takes us to a highly charged ending in which, in an unexpected turn, Ellen reconciles the pain of an irreversible past with the duty ahead. Judy Merrill Larsen teaches high school English in St. Louis, Missouri, where she lives with her husband and five children. She holds a master’s degree from Washington University.
