For March, we explore what I like to call the richer side of deep house. I offer deep sub-bass lows complemented by warm spacey highs, lush synth sweeps, sensual vocal hooks, and a prog-influenced resolution. Progressive house has been entering my consciousness these last few months in various manifestations. These last few years, I admittedly thought "prog" was a dirty word, but as of late I've been finding music that holds on to the melodic beauty of prog, injects deep house grooves, yet still maneuvers away from the cheese the genre has been branded...all of which I think you'll hear in the 2nd half of this mix. Everything goes in cycles, both at a macro and micro level. Perhaps subconsciously in response to the sensitivity of December's mix, which was in response to the thickness of November, which was in part was a response to October's delicacy, which I think may have been a turn from the intensity of my experience at Burning Man, I open February with an obvious driving (dare I say less sophisticated?) edge before cycling and sliding into a comfortable melodic descent. Dynamism....from a metaphysical perspective, it's the belief that the nature of every substance contains an expression of the universe. As an artistic movement, dynamism is the capture of an objects motion - both intrinsic and relative to its environment. To me, Dynamism is the push and pull of intensity and energy. I consider this mix one of my more ambitious efforts, aiming to work through strong swings of intensity, melody, and motion while still staying on some semblance of a cogent course. I find that this is a mix that I enjoy the more I listen to it, which usually isn't the case. I hope it resonates with you as much as it does for me.
