ART VOX with Rebecca Wilson - ART VOX – Series 3: English Breakfast Ep 2: Judith Brenner, Painter
play

11/11/18 • 17 min

Judith Brenner is an English painter who works with the themes of alchemy. Using metal powders and experimenting with other materials on canvas, her works evolve and change as a matter of chemistry and they reflect the energy of various environments and landscapes that inspire her. If you’d like to see her work, visit judithbrenner.com or pop in to an open day at Wimbledon Studios in London. She’ll be at the Wimbledon Art Fair 15-18 November and is also exhibiting her life drawing works in a show with Anneka Rice from Nov 27 – Dec 8 at the OSO Arts Centre in Barnes London .

Judith and I met at Parallax Art Fair in London July 2018, where we were both exhibiting and we recorded this chat.

Welcome to my new series of podcasts, English Breakfast, recorded while I was in London, July 2018. I was invited to present my Kate Kelly: Sister of an Outlaw paintings and book at the Parallax Art Fair and I gave a talk at the Kensington Central Library, London. I took the opportunity to interview a number of artists who were also exhibiting their works. Thanks to those artists who were great company and interesting people! Lucy Jean Green – nameandcolour.co.uk – Lucy is a kinetic artist and paper sculptor whose beautiful work is often displayed in bell jars or small glass fronted boxes. The stage like interiors showcase beautifully handcrafted mini stages or sets, often featuring mythological stories about birds which echo the elegant wing movement via a side crank. https://rebeccawilsonart.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/lucy-jean-green.mp3

Melbourne based documentary maker Kerry Negara came to Sydney for the opening of my exhibition A Portrait of Landscape and Time in Hill End at Leichhardt Library and spoke a little about her experience researching and making the film A Loving Friend. Kerry’s impressive production about artist Donald Friend’s self confessed paedophilia in Bali, highlights the trail of damage he caused and the appalling attitudes of some art elites. Her film has influenced my project, inspiring my own research and the making of some paintings in response. Follow the link below to listen to our conversation.
