Ep. 96 - The Human Social Creature
Humans (Homo sapiens) are a species of highly intelligent primates. They are the only extant members of the subtribe Hominina and—together with chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans—are part of the family Hominidae (the great apes, or hominids).
...Neontology is a part of biology that, in contrast to paleontology, deals with living organisms. It is the study of extant taxa : taxa with members still alive, as opposed to (all) being extinct. For example:
- The moose is an extant species, and the dodo is an extinct species.
- In the group of molluscs known as the cephalopods, as of 1987 there were approximately 600 extant species and 7,500 extinct species
Why?
Why talk about the human social creature?
I am actively building the life of my dreams through consistent goal setting utilizing (7) categories:
- financial
- physical
- personal development
- family
- spiritual
- social
- career
Last week, we covered financial and physical...
...Monday we talked personal development
...Tuesday we talked family
...Wednesday we talked (Spirituality)
Which brings us to the topic / category of "Social"
Humans uniquely use systems of symbolic communication such as language and art to express themselves and exchange ideas, as well as to organize themselves into purposeful groups. Humans create complex social structures composed of many cooperating and competing groups, from families and kinship networks to political states. (wikipedia)
Dunbar's number is a suggested cognitive limit to the number of people with whom one can maintain stable social relationships—relationships in which an individual knows who each person is and how each person relates to every other person.Wikipedia
These are the "social" groups that I am currently involved in:
- Independent Order of Odd Fellows
- United Church of Christ, Congregational
- Freedom Cell Network
Past Social Groups for Ideas:
- Colorado Mountain Club
- 12-Step / Support Groups
- MeetUp Groups

Ep. 98 - The Easiest and The Hardest Step
If everything is important, then nothing is important.
Where could you be better at prioritizing this week?
What's important to you?
That's a great question and was the daily quote in the Self Journal...
...ties in nicely with show topic
Past Financial Episodes:
- Ep. 91 - Personal and Business Money Management Software
- Ep. 79 - The Money Talk
- Episode 15 - Financial Peace
Listen to those episodes and you will hear motivation for today's show
I presume you have your own financial motivators
For me, I wanted to get out of debt and move on with my life.
I began feeling as though the burden of debt was suffocating me.
HOW
Dave Ramsey
Not my story, listen to those past episodes
Until I find superior system, I'll focus on what Dave teaches
And today it's what I do
also why we're talking about Baby Step 1 today
As previously mentioned
Why?
- Money is the #1 cause of divorce
- We've been lied to about "good debt" (school loans, financing, etc)
- Debt Freedom = Financial Freedom
How many of us are broke out there?
How many of us are living paycheck to paycheck?
Why am I focused so much on money?
Am I hyperfocused on money?
I've even talked about the Danger of Hyperfocus in Episode 17 of the podcast
Perhaps I am hyperfocused, I want to be, I need to be.
Gazelle intense!
This is the hardest baby step and the easiest baby step
10 million families have gone through FPU
You can do this!
For me...the secret was charity
Giving 10% to charity
I believe the secret to success is giving your money away.
Only when I began giving it away could I begin to keep it!
Baby Step 1 is putting $1000 into a Baby Emergency Fund
You can do this!
Financial peace is 80% behavior and 20% head knowledge
