Quick Fit Tip - How to Avoid Common Exercise Injuries
All About Fitness
11/11/21 • 30 min
5.0
Exercise is physical stress imposed upon the body; when you do it the right way, you can get the results that you want, however, exercise done the wrong way could result in an injury that keeps you from your goals. Muscles generate force. Fascia and elastic connective tissue transmits that force through the body; it's often these tissues that become injured which can keep you from being able to workout. This Quick Fit Tip identifies what you should know about your fascia so you can avoid injury.

Sue Hitzmann - Self-care for Your Muscles
All About Fitness
11/24/21 • 67 min
5.0
Have you ever felt stiff or sore for no reason? Yes, you may exercise, lift weights, get your heart-rate up and push yourself during hard, high-intensity workouts, but when was the last time that you did anything specific for your fascia and connective tissue? There are two types of muscle tissue, the contractile component that generates force and the elastic element that transmits the force around the body; it's this second type of tissue that is often overlooked with many traditional fitness programs. When your connective tissues don't function properly, it can change how your entire body functions which can result in long-term, nagging injuries.
Sue Hitzmann is a manual therapist who created the MELT Method to reduce the amount of stress that accumulates in your muscles and soft-tissues during exercise so that you can get the results that you want from your workouts. Recorded LIVE at a fitness education event for the first time since 2019!!! - Sue provides insights on how our connective tissue is different than muscle and shares why it is so important to focus on self-care for your connective tissue so that you can achieve optimal health through movement. Learn all about how your body is designed to move on this episode of All About Fitness.
In 2001, Sue Hitzmann was inspired to create “homework” for her clients, which led to the development of the MELT Method – the first-ever form of Hands-off Bodywork®. Now with her bestselling book and the products Sue personally designed, anyone, anywhere, can take steps to restore whole-body efficiency and lead a healthier, more active life. Sue has appeared on the Dr. Oz Show, Nightline, The Rachael Ray Show, Good Morning America, andLive! with Regis and Kelly, and MELT has been featured in publications such as SELF, More, Prevention, and the New York Times. She has empowered tens of thousands of people to live healthy, pain-free lives and has trained over a thousand instructors to share the secrets to pain-free living.

Are you getting close to the 'BIG 4-Oh'? Are you already in your 40s (or a little beyond)? Do you find it a challenge to balance all of the things that you have to do, like work and family, with the things that you want to do, like exercise? Introducing a brand-new feature of the All About Fitness podcast: Fitness Over 40 with Aimee Nicotera
Aimee is a personal trainer, group fitness instructor and fitness educator (she teaches other trainers and instructors how to make people sweaty); she has been on the podcast 2 times to talk about how to stay fit while pregnant and to share how she overcame breast cancer. Recently we started having these conversations on Facebook Live and they are perfect for this show, so the audio portions are going to become an ongoing part of the programming; twice a month Aimee and I will address a specific issue about managing life in our 40s while making health and fitness a priority.
On this episode, Aimee and I talk about how to encourage your kids to be active; Aimee has a young son and I have 2 daughters in elementary school. Issues covered in this episode include: which is better for young kids - sports or activities? How to help your kids develop physical literacy, how to model healthy behavior for your kids and what that means. This is a fun and engaging conversation that will help you identify ways that your entire family can be more active.
