What does anxiety really look like, and how quick are we to judge someone without knowing what truly goes on inside the psyche?
In this episode, I had the divine honor to interview the Netflix star of Love is Blind, Season 2, Danielle Ruhl, where she uncovers more of the truth of her story and gives us a peek behind the curtain in her openness about living with mental health and her lifelong commitment to being an advocate and ally.
In watching her on Season 2, I felt immediately drawn to her energy and I didn’t know why until she revealed more of journey in struggling with trauma, anxiety, and feeling her empathic nature which sometimes can be a struggle for those that are more sensitive in the world.
She also reveals how she healed through her own dark night of the soul moments, and shared her passion of channeling her pain through music with her latest release, Addicted to Pain!
About Danielle:
Danielle Ruhl, best known for starring on Netflix’s hit show, Love is Blind (season 2) is finally putting pen to paper and adding music in the background. The Chicago-native has always had a passion for writing and journaling as well as a love for music. Danielle, who began journaling as a form of therapy at the age of 14, has always been outspoken and an advocate for mental health. She has been a spokesperson for Mental Health America (MHA), the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to mental health as well as other local charities and hopes to be a lifelong advocate.

On Instagram, she openly shares her struggles + urges people to be more empathetic and to become advocates for mental health awareness.

She wrote, "Nothing is more beautiful than women building up women and I can't wait to grow and learn from empathizing with each other. I hope for nothing but happiness for all."

Aside from helping to destigmatize mental illness, she loves to travel and spend time with her loved ones. Her feed is filled with images of Ruhl on vacation and surrounded by friends and family. She's arguably one of the most interesting and inspiring people starring in this season of "Love is Blind."

Today's episode couldn't have been more divine timing with Women's Equality Day this week on August 26th, and Lauren's birthday which was on August 23rd (Happy Birthday Lauren!) What a better way to celebrate than by soaking in her energy + POWERFUL message in fueling femme dreams and how she has been able to bring BIG ideas to life (Tits first, you'll hear the story behind this!)
Come ALIVE + climb the Lauren Spalding tree with me, rooted in LOVE above all else, which takes many forms such as the movement of music + anything creative that Universally speaks to your Soul. In her words, “Be present in the moment, and try to string together as many moments as you can that feel good, and do good.

Lauren is a beacon of hope to provide womxn and non binary folx the opportunity to become DJ’s, producers, and engineers in the music world through the educational non-profit Femme House, for which she co-founded with LP Giobbi. In 2021, still only 2.5% of non-males are producers + engineers.

More on Lauren:

Lauren A. Spalding graduated from high school on a Thursday afternoon, and started working as a publicity intern at Capitol Records the next morning (where the Beatles, Sinatra, and Nat King Cole recorded!) That was over fifteen years ago, and she hasn’t worked a “real” job since.

As an artist management consultant for her own shop, The Spalding Company, she's shepherded fruitful partnerships to help bring her clients' big ideas to life. As a managing member of Sofi Tukker’s artist oasis, Animal Talk Collective, she’s been a songwriter, party planner, publishing executive, and webmaster, sometimes all in the same day. As co-founder of educational non-profit FEMME HOUSE, she chips away at the equity gap inherent to the technical roles of the music industry, providing womxn and non binary folx opportunities to learn how to be producers and engineers. And as her artist alter ego, Hermixalot, she lives out her pre-teen Missy Elliot dreams, writing and performing songs to move the people.

In what originally started as a bonus session to my talk at PodFest 2021 on Podcasting to Heal Anxiety + Depression, this conversation with a Panel of podcasters crystallized into a deep + meaningful conversation that is not touched on enough.

In fact, speaking about mental health is taboo not only in the United States, but far reaching globally to Tanzania and Malaysia, where Paula and Peter in this discussion share is strictly silenced in their country to the present day.

This episode was originally a conversation that wasn't intended to become a podcast episode, but I felt so deeply compelled to share this message with you on the podcast, and inspired the guests to share on their shows as well, as this is the FIRST step we can take to bring light + awareness to those who feel they cannot speak openly about their struggles with mental health.

In a recent survey by Sermo.com of 3,334 physicians across 24 countries in January of 2021, 86% agreed that depression + mental health is the BIGGEST non COVID-19 public health issue in the coming year, which has clearly been the case with the continued rise in mental health and our global crises of addiction due to the the panic and constant fear-based methods of control in our environment.

I hope you enjoy hearing this behind-the-scenes conversation from a panel of podcasters all dedicating their podcasts to helping heal the world, one episode and conversation at a time.

Are you hard on yourself? The harsh inner critic is very common for women caregivers, especially empaths and highly sensitives in the spiritual and recovery communities. What started as resonance in response to a post on Instagram has led to a beautiful connection + kindred spirit with my guest in this episode, Kelly Greene.
She came into my life at a time when I lost faith in the spiritual community, and entrusting so many healers and spaces that simply didn't have the trauma informed approach or empathy to hold all that I was carrying.
Kelly speaks to her path to her work with Prana Reiki after her divorce + loss of her brother to cancer in 2012 to a dream that guided her to a deep love of Reiki healing for recovery.
In our conversation, we touch on how to heal and integrate in layers, allowing for ample rest and space to process your emotions without getting stuck into states of depression or stagnation.
Kelly speaks to the suffering of society's obsession with highs and lows, and how the messy middle is truly a place to become your own healer, and learn how to cultivate wild self compassion and humanity through healing.
Make sure you stay tuned through this 2-part series where Kelly invites us to join her in a distance Reiki session to experience her magic LIVE!

In a collective society that demands so much of our time and energy, it can feel overwhelming and exhausting. Lauren and I divinely connected in a Clubhouse talk at the beginning of this year that I randomly hosted on Burnout and Mental Health for Entrepreneurs, and when she spoke on our stage, I was enamored by her presence and fire 🔥 for life...she reminded me so much of myself.

And it wasn’t until this conversation that I knew why we were connected, and stayed connected after this talk sharing our stories of being first Gen Americans to immigrant parents, and the expectations of living “The American Dream” to living her dream, to living life ON purpose as a certified life coach, trauma informed facilitator + proud Mama and Founder of The Lion’s Den!

From the “mat to the mic” get ready to hear Lauren ROAR in her Lioness fashion! (Also her dancer name!)

Are you easily picking up on other people’s energy, almost porous? Do you you find it challenging to be around certain people or places, and want to know how to protect and love yourself while in those spaces?
I felt compelled to release this talk from my Insight Timer live as so many of us highly sensitives + empaths struggle with setting and maintaining healthy boundaries in our lives. Especially around this time of year, when family dynamics + people in our aura can be very triggering.

This episode (Part 1 of a 2 part series) will help you return home 🤍 to yourself and help you feel more safe and connected to be yourself. To speak up when someone is not respecting your boundaries, and how to show up for yourself when others are constantly demanding your time + energy.
In this solo series, I will discuss how to:

  1. Believe you have ownership of your own experience.
  2. Develop a strong sense of self.
  3. Decide what type of energy you will bring into the room, event, situation you’re going into.
  4. Set an energetic boundary around yourself.
  5. Be aware of what your body physically feels like in the moment + your nervous system response.
  6. Decide what you will/will not tolerate with a "tolerance tally".
  7. Practice this. Affirm to others what you are needing in this moment, and what you will no longer tolerate in your life.
