American Baseball Coaches Association

The ABCA Podcast runs the gamut of baseball coaching topics, from pitching, to hitting, to the mental game, practice planning, recruiting and more. It's hosted by Ryan Brownlee, longtime coach and current Assistant Executive Director of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The ABCA is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches, with more than 15,000 members representing all 50 U.S. states and 41 countries. Since 1945, Association membership has broadened to include: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, Junior College, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel Baseball. Each January, the ABCA hosts the largest baseball convention in the world. Over 8,000 coaches participate in the convention, which is held at various locations around the country. Next up on the ABCA podcast is ABCA/ATEC Div. I Coach of the Year, LSU head coach, Jay Johnson. Johnson led LSU to this year’s National Championship and was his third appearance in Omaha with two previous at the University of Arizona. Johnson got his coaching start at Point Loma with ABCA Hall of Famer Dr. Carroll Land after he finished playing. Johnson continued his coaching journey in Southern California heading to San Diego to be the recruiting coordinator. Johnson put together top 25 recruiting classes while he was at San Diego including Golden Spikes award winner and future MLB star Kris Bryant. Johnson took over the Nevada program in 2014 being named Mountain West Coach of the Year in 2015. Johnson coached at Arizona from 2016-2021 taking the Wildcats to 2 World Series appearances and playing for the National Championship in 2016. Johnson was hired by LSU in the Fall of 2021. Johnson has a blueprint for recruiting and developing players and it is no different now that he is with the Tigers’ program.
