Episode 0022—No PARCing
A Fork In Time: The Alternate History Podcast
10/10/19 • 37 min
In the early 1970s, Xerox ruled the office copier world and had the vision to establish the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) as an innovation catalyst for new technologies that would enable it to expand its place as a technology leader. PARC was the place where the first personal computer, computer network, graphical user interfaces, and computer mice all had their start—none of which became part of the next phase of Xerox.
How might the world be different today if Xerox had the vision to be the company that delivered the visionary advances spawned by its own creation—PARC—to the world?
The commercial for the Xerox Alto—arguably the first “personal computer”:

Episode 0121—No Need For A Fight
A Fork In Time: The Alternate History Podcast
09/17/21 • 45 min
When Henry VII died in 1509, having been preceded in death by his eldest son Arthur, the English throne passed to his second-oldest son, Henry, who is known to history as Henry VIII. But there was Henry's older sister, Margaret, who was skipped over because of male primogeniture in favor of her younger brother.
What would have changed in the flow of history if Margaret had been allowed to take the throne in her own right as Queen of England instead of Queen of Scotland by marriage?

Episode 0131—Little MAC (Move After Christmas)
A Fork In Time: The Alternate History Podcast
01/07/22 • 88 min
From March to July in 1862, the Union army under the command of Gen. George B. McClellan launched the "Peninsula Campaign" as a major offensive and came very near to capturing the Confederate capital of Richmond. In the real historical timeline, the nearly-defeated Confederate forces came under the command of Gen. Robert E. Lee and eventually achieved the Union army's withdrawal. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peninsula_campaign)
What if the outcome had been different not only for the course of the war but the Reconstruction to follow with an earlier Union victory during this campaign in 1962?
Robert Cocheu joins our Chris Coppola for this episode.

Episode 0117—Draft Diverted
A Fork In Time: The Alternate History Podcast
08/11/21 • 75 min
On August 12, 1941, the US House of Representatives by a single vote retained the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 preserving the recently instituted peacetime draft a mere months before the United States formally entered World War II with Speaker Sam Rayburn being a key factor in using a keen knowledge of House parliamentary rules and quick gavel to secure the vote.
How would US involvement in World War II have been different if the Act had not been retained? Regular show contributor Chris Coppola joins to explore the topic.

Episode 0164—Eisenhower Extended (Part 1)
A Fork In Time: The Alternate History Podcast
11/04/22 • 65 min
Episode #153 ("Ike Wiped") led the team to several possible paths on an alternative timeline where President Eisenhower died from a 1955 heart attack. We decided at the end of that episode we would have to circle back and revisit some of them.
While some of the original team could not be part of this episode, Don and Chris are joined by guest Dylan Holzemer for the first of these extensions of the thought. This one focuses on domestic issues, and a subsequent one will look at foreign policy from 1960 forward under this fork.
