It's a charged world these days. From politics to religion. Even in our own gay world. It seems that from the apps to even in person meetings, we throw shade at each other without exercising empathy and understanding. Yet what happens when you to take a second look? When we slow down and exercise empathy and understanding, rather than staying in your apathetic ways of being in your beliefs and only your beliefs? That's what we're exploring today with the host of Second Sunday podcast, Darren Calhoun. He's an open-minded explorer teaching how we can all be more open and understanding to one another from the pulpit to the ballot box. In this provocative episode:
  • We explore apathy and empathy and how to become more of the latter
  • Learn how to utilize the pause in all situations
  • Uncover the means for seeing each other as gay men for who we truly are

About Darren

Darren Calhoun (he/him) is a justice advocate, worship leader, and artist based out of Chicago. He works to bridge connections between people of differing perspectives through story and relationship. Darren brings with him an intentional focus on communities being inclusive as an authentic reflection of God’s love and justice. Lastly, Darren is a neurodivergent extrovert who loves hugs.

40 Plus: Gay Men. Gay Talk. - Weathering The Storms of Life – Mark Asquith
play

07/26/19 • 17 min

We all have storms in life. Crazy making storms. Some that we call the S*it Storms of life. As a guy 40 Plus, we can find ourselves right in the midst of a bunch of these storms, pulling our hair out, if we even have any hair left, or managing through them with ease and grace.

My buddy and mentor for my podcasts, Mark Asquith, joins me today to dole out some advice on weathering the storms of life. He’s not quite 40 but, I’m slipping him into the mix because he’s a pretty smart bloke most them time, and even when he’s not, he’s still pretty good to hang with. So let’s get into the storms of life and manage them, even if that means only with a joke and a hot dog!

About Mark

Mark Asquith is a serial entrepreneur who has built globally successful design, marketing, software and digital businesses since he quit his real job in 2005. A passionate podcaster, global keynote speaker and helpful bloke, Mark is the co-founder of Podcast Websites and the creator of Excellence Expected. He has a terribly embarrassing beard.

In 2008 he set up his first “real” business.

Less than 12 months later he royally screwed it up, having only 60 pounds in the bank and having let his whole team and offices go.

Since then, the Hot Dog Kid has learned his lesson and has gone on to found a globally successful design agency, two tech startups, the UK’s #1 business podcast and a personal brand that has created an audience of worldwide fans of his “no shit” attitude.

Following a blaze of glory burnout in 2012, he is a regular speaker across the world at tech, business and media events, particularly in the United States.

  • A straight talking, no bullshit millennial speaker.
  • Talks on productivity, startups, work/life balance, personal branding, digital product development, user experience and all aspects of modern marketing.
  • Spends all his speaking fees on hot dogs and beard products.
  • Once heckled Rick Astley enough to upset him

40 Plus: Gay Men. Gay Talk. - 190: The New Masculine For Gay Men – Travis Stock
play

09/16/22 • 43 min

What does it mean to be masculine? Who defines it? What does it matter? These are all the big questions we're asking on 40 Plus: Gay Man, Gay Talk Podcast today with fellow Life Coach Travis Stock. He brings his own unique insights into the world of masculinity into play to make you go, "Hmmm? What does masculinity really mean?"

About Travis

Travis helps you find what creates balance in your life by first seeking acceptance of what is. He helps you connect to your truth in the moment, so that it becomes clearer how to be in alignment with your personal, professional, and relationship goals. He doesn't claim to know all the answers, nor do he feel fit to give you advice for your life. But that is directly in line with his coaching philosophy: You actually have all the answers! Don't trust that? Good, he likes the challenge of connecting you to your own wisdom! One of his favorite areas to explore is the balance between masculine and feminine energies in each of us, regardless of gender, and he believes in the importance of nurturing a relationship with both types of energy to create a sense of wholeness. Some other areas he is fascinated by include emotions, the LGBT community, transformation of trauma and shame, interpersonal relationships, the divine masculine, and living open-heartedly.
