1951 Down Place

After last month’s discussion of Captain Kronos – Vampire Hunter (insert the Captain Kronos opening theme stinger here!), the Down Placers continue their look at 1970s Hammer Vampire films by taking a good hard look at Ingrid Pitt in the first installment of the Karnstein Trilogy, The Vampire Lovers (dir. Roy Ward Baker). This film is one of Casey’s Top Five Hammer films. Derek has seen bits and pieces of the film over the years. Scott is watching it for the first time. They may have differing opinions about the film, but they all agree on one thing – Peter Cushing is amazing.

Episode #005 – Captain Kronos-Vampire Hunter

This is the only podcast alive feared by the walking dead. This is 1951 Down Place. This month, the Down Placers spend some quality vampire-hunting time with Hammer’s good captain when they discuss Captain Kronos – Vampire Hunter (dir. Brian Clemens). It’s a film that lives in the middle of both Casey’s and Derek’s Top Five lists. Will it find a home in Scott’s Top Five list as well? You’ll have to listen to find out. You’ll also have to listen to find out why Casey and Derek are now a little scared of Scott.

1951 Down Place: Episode #007 – Paranoiac

The Down Placers considered taking a trip to Ollie’s Last Pub in Malta to discuss Oliver Reed, but since at least two of them don’t have passports, they settled for discussing Oliver Reed’s performance in 1963’s Paranoiac (dir. Freddie Francis). And while Peter Cushing isn’t in this month’s featured film, the guys just can’t seem to stop talking about the man! Can you guess how long it takes for Cushing to come up, and who’s the first one to mention him?

We really need to review more Peter Cushing films apparently . . .
