10 Seconds To Air
07/31/24 • 53 min
Or watching a show and just laughing out loud.
Laughing is more than a physical response to something funny, laughter is an antidote for anxiety, stress, and other health issues. Studies show that people who have a sense of humor actually live longer!
Laughter is also a way for us to communicate with each other. It breaks social barriers and builds connections with others even when we don’t speak the same language or have the same views.
How do you know if you’re laughing enough, and what about laughing more? Is there such a thing as a laughing practice?
Today’s guest is Ros Ben-Moshair. She has spent over 2 decades researching, writing, and teaching about the benefits of laughter. She is the author of The Laughter Effect. She is an adjunct lecturer in the School of Public Health and Psychology at La Trobe University in Australia, where she teaches Positive Psychology and the world’s first Laughter, Resilience and Wellbeing short course for professionals

Writing Your Bestseller With Author Janis Cooke Newman
10 Seconds To Air
06/05/24 • 52 min
Maybe you’ve thought about writing a memoir or a fiction book but you just don’t do it —it’s intimidating, where do I begin, how do I make my readers feel something, and how do I get it to the masses once I am done.
Today’s guest is going to help us answer all of those questions and tell us how she communicates through her writing.
Janis Cooke Newman is an author and teacher.
Her books include Mary: Mrs A Lincoln, A Master Plan For Rescue, and a memoir The Russian Word For Snow.
She is the founder of the Lit Camp Writers Conference and the founder of Page Street, a co-working space for writers in San Francisco and Berkeley.
I (Alita) met her at a writing and meditation retreat I attended last fall. I found how she guided my group through the process of observing the world around us and then expressing that through story, was exceptional—so I thought it would be fun to share her with all of you.

Honoring the Work of Comedian Lenny Bruce Through Actor Ronnie Marmo
10 Seconds To Air
11/21/23 • 41 min
Long before Dave Chappelle, Ali Wong, or Richard Pryor, there was one comedian that changed the landscape for all comedians. He communicated about his life through comedy like no one had ever done.
Lenny Bruce was a controversial character in the 50’s and 60’s who challenged the first amendment with his act by talking about politics, religion, sex, drugs, and race. He was arrested several times for the things he said and spent more time in jail than he did on stage. He died in 1966 of a drug overdose.
Today's guest has taken on Lenny Bruce’s story by writing and starring in a one-man show that portrays the life and character of this controversial communicator.
Ronnie Marmo is an actor, director, and producer. You may have seen him on Criminal Minds or General Hospital, but a few years back he decided to write and star in the one-man show, I’m Not a Comedian, I’m Lenny Bruce, directed by Joe Montanga.
Ronnie has performed this show over 400 times. He joins me in person to talk about his journey in communicating onstage through one of the most iconic performers of all time and share how that comedian has influenced us all.
