*Ranked a "2019 Top Podcast* This is a podcast that brings transparency to top performers, careers, and topics. My name is Hasard Lee. I'm an active F-35 fighter pilot for the Air Force. One of the most important lessons I've learned is that you have to be selective with who you listen to--there's a lot of noise out there. The goal of this podcast is to find experts who are at the top of their field to share their insights based on credibility and experience. About the Host:"Major Lee has 9 years of experience flying both the F-16 and F-35. In 2016, he was selected as the 'Top Instructor Pilot of the Year' for the Air Force's largest F-16 Combat Wing. In 2017, he returned from Afghanistan where his squadron dropped the most ordnance since the opening days of the war. He's flown 82 combat missions and has 4 Air Medals."

The adaptation of H.G. Wells’ novel ‘The War of The Worlds’ in 1938 showed the power of radio to capture listeners’ imagination through science-fiction - and in doing so demonstrated how mass media could be used to communicate science to different audiences. For decades, print and broadcast media have used different genres to portray the sciences, and the popularity of TV programmes like the BBC’s Blue Planet and the longevity of Horizon illustrates a current demand for science broadcasting. But with the digital revolution and the emergence of social networking will professional science broadcasting still retain significance in the future? Is there a role in this new digital world for printed journals and other forms of ‘traditional’ media? Dr Richard Holliman leads discussions exploring the history of science broadcasting and looks at whether emerging forms of user-generated content provide new opportunities for scientists to engage with members of the public. This material has been taken from The Open University course SH804 Communicating science in the information age.

What can we learn from the way business is done in Asian cultures? The dominant management philosophy in the Asia-Pacific region is a Chinese one, emphasising Confucian values, the family and respect for authority. Does the enduring success of this approach have important lessons for us in the West, or is this management style increasingly redundant, as economies and companies internationalise and mature? This album visits several companies in Asia to explore the relationship between value systems and business management. This material forms part of The Open University course B822 Creativity, innovation and change.

Tulsa Tales: Districts at Work MiniPods

Avg Length 9m

Latest episode 4 years ago

Many school system initiatives struggle to get results. Why? All of us who care about education — district staff, community leaders, principals, teachers (and the people who love them) — know that school districts face huge challenges: from persistent achievement gaps, to teacher shortages. And we know how frustrating it feels when strategic plans and best efforts don't produce significantly better results for teachers and students. It was hard for teachers in Tulsa Public Schools to meet their students' diverse needs and deliver instruction that met new, more rigorous standards. This challenge was exacerbated by high levels of teacher turnover (especially among new teachers) and low levels of education funding. By (1) clearly defining what schools needed to be successful, and (2) shifting resources and designing processes to give schools the support they need, the district IS getting traction and seeing results. In this mini-podcast, real school and district leaders share details about what they did and how they did it.
