Most people don’t know that you’re considered a cancer survivor at the moment of diagnosis. It wasn’t always this way. Sixty years ago, a cancer diagnosis was a death sentence. And if you did survive, you were left to figure out the rest of your life on your own.But some survivors demanded something different, something better. This is The Cancer Mavericks, a deep-dive narrative into the people who fought for better treatment, forced doctors to listen, and pushed America to see the human side of the disease.Episodes of this series will publish monthly through the end of December 2021 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the National Cancer Act of 1971.

Deciding what reconstruction is right for you can be overwhelming, the medical terminology can be confusing and it can be just plain scary. And lonely. But you're not alone. My name's Luan. In 2017 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and told I needed a mastectomy. I had no idea about the different types of reconstruction and didn't know anyone who'd had a reconstruction. Hearing about my reconstruction options gave me hope that I could be 'me' again. I'm creating a community that supports and empowers women who want to know more about reconstruction after a mastectomy so that they can feel confident in their choices. On the Rewritten Me podcast I talk with leading surgeons about all aspects of reconstruction, including the latest techniques that they're developing to help improve women's quality of life after a mastectomy. I also talk with healthcare professionals who can help with practical advice to support mental, physical and emotional wellbeing after reconstruction. And I talk with the wonderful women from our community who generously share their stories to help inspire and raises awareness of life after breast cancer and reconstruction. Rewritten Me is here to help women make an holistic, informed decision so that they can have a say in how they re-write their story.Luan Lawrenson-Woods Hosted on Acast. Since my diagnosis fourteen years ago, I have been dedicated to researching lifestyle changes and supporting clinical research to achieve the prevention of breast cancer. My goal is to raise awareness of the need for research funding for the primary prevention of women's cancers and to share information to help those facing this journey. My posts are educational and include my journey with bilateral breast cancer and my year of treatment including a double mastectomy and reconstruction. I have been a breast cancer advocate since 2010 and have served on panels at the department of defense breast cancer funding review programs. My website shares all the information I have collected and verified from long term survivors and medical evidence. I am not a medical professional, simply a teacher who hopes to make a difference by sharing information. I presently serve as one of three breast cancer advocates on the pending clinical trial under the direction of Dr. Vincent Tuohy at the Cleveland clinic to prevent the recurrence of triple negative breast cancer, the most lethal form of the disease began in the Fall of in 2021.I am a graduate of the National Breast Cancer Coalition's Project LEAD and have lobbied Congress for additional funds for prevention clinical trials for breast and ovarian cancers. Hello, and welcome to "Conquering Cancer." I'm your host, Sandeep Wamne: Founder- CancerFax, and today we're going on a trip to raise awareness about cancer, which affects millions of people around the world. In this special show, we'll talk about how cancer affects people, how it can be prevented, and, most importantly, how people can keep fighting.Cancer has no borders, and it affects the lives of patients, their families, and the whole community. It's a disease that makes us feel, think, and act differently. But there is hope in the midst of the darkness. There is hope in early diagnosis, hope in better treatments, and hope in the amazing strength of people who have survived cancer. The best way to fight cancer is to avoid it. Adopting a healthy lifestyle, which includes regular exercise, a balanced diet, and not smoking or drinking too much alcohol, can lower the chance by a lot. Regular screenings are also very important, since finding problems early often leads to better results. We stand with people who have cancer to let them know they are not alone. Support from friends, family, and support groups can be a strong network of care and understanding. Let's be kind ears, shoulders to cry on, and lights of strength.Research and medical progress are always making it easier for us to fight cancer. We are paving the way for new treatments and, one day, a world without cancer by putting money into cutting-edge technology and medical study. All of you who are fighting cancer, you are the most brave and strong people I know. We are all moved by your courage and drive. Together, we work towards a world where cancer isn't something to be afraid of, but a word that means "victory" and shows how strong the human spirit is.
