Original vs. Remake: The Thing (1982)
The Salty Nerd Podcast
The Thing (1982) movie review from the Salty Nerds have them going gay over Kurt Russell - and there's no coming back from that!
A remake of the 1951 original The Thing From Another World, this interpretation from John Carpenter is far more faithful to the original source material - the short story from John W. Campbell Jr. called "Who Goes There?" At a remote Antarctic research station, the group stationed there runs into a shape-shifting alien menace. As paranoia spreads throughout the team, they quickly discover that their teammates are just as dangerous as this Thing from another world! Who's human? Who's The Thing? Who will survive?
Widely praised as John Carpenter's masterpiece of horror cinema, The Thing flopped at the box office when it was initially released, but has gone on to become a classic film praised by critics and fans alike. Salty Nerds Review: SEE - God Thunder (S3E7)
The Salty Nerd Podcast
SEE Season 3 Episode 7 God Thunder review from the Salty Nerds has them feeling very sad that their favorite TV show is almost over, but also very happy that the show is as ridiculous as ever.
Sybeth and Tormada launch their attack on Pensa as a helpless (and useless) Kofun looks on. Bobba and crew arrive just in time to see the palace destroyed, but don't worry, no one important actually died in the ruthless bombing of the city. Mahgra realizes she's a terrible queen and Harlan's last gift to Haniwa ensures that the citizes of his city might just survive. And never one to back down from a fight, Bobba Voss gets geared up and readies himself to take on Sybeth with the help of his old friend Poopbeard.
What did you think of SEE's PENULTIMATE episode? Are you excited for the finale? Who do you think is going to die? How will the series end? Can we get at least 1 more Haka dance before it's all over? Let us know in our Discord server! You can join it for free here: http://www.saltynerddiscord.com

Salty Nerd Reviews: House of the Dragon - The Lord of the Tides (S1E8)
The Salty Nerd Podcast
Things are coming to a head in House of the Dragon as a succession crisis for House Velaryon forces all the game-players to return to King's Landing to argue their case for Driftmark. The battle lines between the Greens and the Blacks are starkly drawn, and it's up to the severely ill King Viserys to try and quell the conflict before it begins.
And now that the kids are all grown up, the family feud has been passed down to them. Rhaenyra's kids Jace and Luke are at odds with Alicent's kids Aegon and Aemond, and it seems that no matter what Viserys does, the House of the Dragon is destined to be divided.
What did you think of episode 8 of House of the Dragon? What is your favorite Game of Thrones podcast to listen to? What are your predictions for the PENULTIMATE episode? Let us know on our Discord server over at: http://www.saltynerddiscord.com

Salty Nerd Reviews: SEE - The Lowlands (S3E6)
The Salty Nerd Podcast
SEE Season 3 Episode 6 The Lowlands Review have the Salty Nerds divided as to whether his episode was awesome or whether it was the worst one of the season.
Trying to get back to Pensa faster, Boba Voss and his crew decide to take a shortcut and run afoul of a tribe of blind mutant cannibals who end up costing them more time than they would have if they'd gone the long way. Tormada and Snake Queen Sybeth finally meet, and sparks fly. Mahgra and Tamacti Jun form a buddy cop squad and try to solve a murder. And the Pensan guards continue to be useless.
Though this is the final season of the Jason Momoa AppleTV show, this episode seemed very much like a filler episode that distracted from the main story of the season and saw a lot of surprising character deaths that felt hollow in the grand scheme of things. But there's enough fun action in the episode to distract from the massive number of plot holes!

80s Chinese Mysticism Week: Big Trouble In Little China (1986)
The Salty Nerd Podcast
Big Trouble In Little China movie review from the Salty Nerds have them perplexed at this awesome cult classic movie from John Carpenter and Kurt Russell. Kurt Russell plays the legendary Jack Burton who teams up with Dennis Dun and Victor Wong to fight the cursed Chinese sorcerer David Lo Pan (played by James Hong ) all the while romancing Kim Cattrall and dropping epic one-liners.
Big Trouble In Little China is ahead of its time in many ways, and part of its box office failure was because the studio didn't know how to market such an off-the-wall movie. But John Carpenter has such a subversive take on typical 1908s action movies that this film is quite brilliant once you "get the joke."

80s Chinese Mysticism Week: The Golden Child (1986)
The Salty Nerd Podcast
The Golden Child movie review from the Salty Nerds has them talking about this 1986 classic from Eddie Murphy which went from being a serious mystical thriller to what essentially amounts to a supernatural version of Beverly Hills Cop. This fantasy comedy film is a nostalgic favorite of the Salty Nerds and follows Eddie Murphy as private investigator Chandler Jarrell as he teams up with expert martial artist Kee Nang to search for the kidnapped Golden Child. Along the way, Eddie Murphy deals with strange mystical creatures, biker gangs, and the evil Sardo Numspa, played by Tywin Lannister himself - Charles Dance. Also, you can't have an 80s movie that deals with Asians without Victor Wong and James Hong!
But the real question is, why is this movie (which was originally going to star Mel Gibson) so hated by Eddie Murphy that he swore never to do a sequel to it? We discuss all this and more in our review of The Golden Child! What is your The Golden Child movie review? Did you love it? Hate it? Do you want the knife? Pleeeeeaaaasssse? Horror Sequels Go To Space: Jason X (2001)
The Salty Nerd Podcast
The Jason X Movie Review from the Salty Nerds has them marveling at the sheer camp of the tenth entry into the Friday The 13th franchise. So if you want to smoke some weed and have premarital sex, this is the movie for you! Sort of.
Jason Voorhees has escaped from the Crystal Lake Research Facility and gets cryogenically frozen, only to be awoken 500 years later. After killing a bunch of horny space teenagers and space marines, Jason gets beat up by an "uploaded" android. But a bunch of nano-ants give him an upgrade to UBER JASON and now he's pretty much unstoppable.
This is the final time Kane Hodder plays Jason Voorhees, and this movie also stars Lexa Doig, Peter Mensah, and even has a cameo from filmmaker David Cronenberg. If you thought horror couldn't get any sillier, wait until you see Jason X - one scene in particular is laugh-out-loud funny.
Though we're not a horror movie podcast, we do like to review horror films, ESPECIALLY the campy ones! Come check out our review of Friday The 13th part 10 (or Jason X, because New Line couldn't legally use the title Friday the 13th) and laugh along with us!
