A geriatrics and palliative care podcast for every health care professional. We invite the brightest minds in geriatrics, hospice, and palliative care to talk about the topics that you care most about, ranging from recently published research in the field to controversies that keep us up at night. You'll laugh, learn and maybe sing along. Hosted by Eric Widera and Alex Smith. CME available!
The increased life expectancy of people in industrialised nations is linked to a rise in age-related illnesses, most notably neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases as well as Frontotemporal Dementia and Prion diseases. This has both economic and social consequences for society and represents a heavy burden on public healthcare systems. The aim of the "Dementia in an Ageing Society" research focus is to correlate the findings of basic and clinical research on neurodegenerative diseases with social sciences and humanities studies focused on an increasingly ageing society. Interdisciplinary discussions at the interface between these fields should replace the usually separate expert debates, thus fostering and reinforcing not only exchanges between the natural and the social sciences or humanities but also the debate between basic research and applied medicine in this domain.

Welcome to Minding Memory. In this podcast we discuss topics related to dementia research. This is an all-hands-on-deck moment for dementia research, and we have topics for both those new to the space as well as old pros. We start with some basics, like: What exactly is dementia? What are the different types of dementia? What is the TICS, if not a swarm of blood-sucking insects? But we also invite researchers on to discuss their interesting work to give you a glimpse at the questions, data, and methods moving the field forward.

Minding Memory is co-hosted by Matthew Davis and Lauren Gerlach. Matt and Lauren are health services researchers and professors at the University of Michigan. Matt’s PhD is in Data Science and Lauren is a geriatric psychiatrist. The Minding Memory podcast is part of the Center to Accelerate Population Research in Alzheimer’s (CAPRA) at the University of Michigan, supported by the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health. Additional support also comes from the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation. The content of this podcast does not represent the views of the National Institutes of Health or the University of Michigan. Are you wondering if you can survive taking care of your aging parents with dementia? Everywhere you look there are explanations about what happens in the mind of a person with different forms of dementia (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Lewy Body, vascular, and many others) and how to meet their needs in this season of their lives. Master Coach Iryna Ishchenko talks openly, honestly, and occasionally provocatively about you, the caregiver, whose needs are not met because you give all of yourself to meet the needs of others, and what happens in your mind. This podcast is about you and what it takes to take care of yourself to be able to take care of your family members with dementia and how to thrive in your caregiving journey, even if you think you can’t survive it.

A podcast series that is dedicated to bringing hope for lasting healing for those struggling with a brain on fire. The numbers don't lie- new onset dementia is a diagnosis seen with greater frequency. Is it because of chronic brain inflammation that started before you were born? Is it because of undiagnosed stealth infections, toxic burdens or something else? In this podcast, we explore the science of health habits that will change the direction of your brain health forever. You will be challenged, like I was, to RETHINK what it means to be healthy. This podcast is hosted by Sande Bargeron, PhD, who, after years in the medical field, was forced to re-examine foundational health and the meaning of healing. After dealing with personal autoimmune issues, losing a family member to dementia, struggling with kids who had ADHD and a child with chronic neurological Lyme Disease, she learned that protecting the brain was a highly overlooked aspect of human health. We medicate brain issues, but do we really preserve brain health? Are we dooming a generation to early cognitive decline, robbing them of their chance for dignified aging and of the freedom to enjoy the fruits of their labor in the twilight years? Rethink lifestyle, nutrition, fitness and more. Bio-hack your brain and be inspired to take action that will help you fully enjoy your life again. New episodes at the beginning of each month.
