Are you ready to burst your filter bubble? To hit pause on righteous anger? Principle of Charity injects curiosity and generosity back into difficult conversations, bringing together two expert guests with opposing views on big social issues.

But here’s the twist: as well as passionately advocating their own views, each guest is challenged to present the best, most generous version of the other’s argument.

This unique format comes from an ancient idea - the principle of charity - which tells us to seek the truth, not to win the fight; to truly understand the other before we instinctively reject them.

The podcast is hosted by Emile Sherman and Lloyd Vogelman. Emile is an Academy and Emmy Award-winning film & TV producer who’s obsessively curious about ideas and holds onto the naïve belief that a generous conversion is still the best way to get to the truth. Lloyd has a doctorate in psychology, spent years as a leader in the fight against apartheid before building reconciliation in South Africa, and describes himself as a recovering extremist who’s passionate about the potential to change our minds.

Want to find a Houston-area place to volunteer that is right for you? Listen along as your host Paul H. Cannon interviews local Houston-area mission leaders and participants about their mission and how you can be a part of something bigger right here in Houston, Texas.
When Paul H. Cannon was in his late 20s, He was the missions coordinator for a bible study class of 165 people at Second Baptist Westway Campus in Houston. One of the challenges he ran across was finding local mission projects for the class to participate in. "If only there was a website where you could go and learn about a large group of opportunities at once," Paul thought.
It was from this idea that Meet Houston Missions was born. As a partner and the marketing manager for Simmons and Fletcher, P.C., Injury & Accident Lawyers, Paul now had the means to create what he was missing. It started out as a simple series of Zoom videos and has not evolved into a weekly podcast.
If you are in the Greater Houston Area and a Mission looking for volunteers, I want to talk to you! If you are someone in the GHA who needs volunteer hours for a school group, or church group project, or you just want to be a part of something bigger, this show is for you.
Follow our podcast and visit: https://www.simmonsandfletcher.com/meet-houston-missions/ to learn about the opportunities that are literally surrounding you!
Meet Houston Missions guests do not have to be affiliated with any group or religion. If your organization is boot-on-the-ground helping people in our area, email Paul at [email protected] for guest opportunities.
Simmons and Fletcher, P.C., Injury & Accident Lawyers is a personal injury law firm based in Houston, Texas. Learn more about the firm at: https://www.simmonsandfletcher.com. It has been serving the Houston community since 1979.

From face to face to regular giving and from high value to reporting back, the roots of our favourite fundraising techniques go back many, many years. It's astounding that the ideas and tactics our fundraising forebears developed still boost income when we use them in the technologically advanced environment of today. As a result, when I consider a fundraising problem I always look to the past and use that understanding to create a solution for today. As part of my personal fundraising journey I've been spending time with the fundraisers who were involved in some of the most amazing campaigns from the second half of the 20th century to see what what I can learn from them. And I thought it would be a good idea to share their thoughts and stories so everyone can benefit - so I recorded them. This series of podcasts is the result.

Behind the Tin is a podcast that introduces you to the heroic men and women who wear the tin while protecting our community and hearing about the extraordinary things they're doing when their badge is in the locker.

From creating a business to starting a not-for-profit, from coaching sports to being a mentor for children, Behind the Tin examines all the different things our heroes do when they are “off duty”.

About Your Hosts:

Stephen J, "the Good Lieutenant" is a man that has been in emergency services since 16 years old when he started to “play fireman” at his local fire department. He served in several leadership roles and that was the first place he was called “The Good Lieutenant”.

Stephen J. became a Deputy Sheriff in one of New York State’s largest counties in 2000 and currently holds the rank of, you guessed it, Lieutenant.

Stephen J is a leader in and out of law enforcement, serving on various community boards and organizations, many of which you will hear about on Behind the Tin.

Justin "the Civilian Producer" comes from the business world.

Justin, utilizing his experience and marketing education started his own podcast, Marketing and Service with Justin Varuzzo.

Justin has always admired the men and women who put his safety above their own. He first met Stephen J while they both were involved in a community group and their friendship grew. After meeting many more first responders and getting to know them, he became very intrigued by the “hidden lives”, the things they did when they weren’t in their uniforms working.

Through Justin's intrigue and podcast knowledge and Stephen J’s experience and network, BEHIND THE TIN was born!

Charity Champions are nonprofit organizations working to make a positive impact in our community. Each fall, our employees chose six nonprofits from nominations that are made on our website. Anyone can submit a nomination, and nominations are carried forward each year. The benefits selection as a Charity Champions are leadership development training and increased awareness, both of which are usually cost-prohibitive for these organizations. It's TFNB Your Bank For Life's way of giving back to the community that has treated us so well for more than 125 years.
