Podcaster Q&A

Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

My name is Tracy. I'm a sinner saved by grace, a daughter of the King, a wife, a mom, and a fan of animation. I'm a magazine writer/editor by day and a hobbyist podcaster whenever I can squeeze it in.

Why did you get into podcasting?

I love listening to podcasts, I had an idea for one that I just couldn't shake, and I thought it would be a fun challenge to take on. Recently at a WonderCon panel on Pop Culture and the Christian Church, one of the panelists, Alexander James, said something that resonated with me: "That thing you love as a passion is actually a pulpit." This podcast allows me to use something that I'm passionate about-- animated movies-- to also talk about something that is even more important to me: my faith.

How did the idea for the show come about?

The idea for Toon My Heart first came to me as I watched (and re-watched) Encanto with my daughter and realized that there were ideas and themes in the film that resonated with my faith. From there, I started thinking about faith-related themes in some of my other favorite animated films and realized I felt I had a unique perspective to share.

What do you hope listeners take from the show?

I hope listeners gain a deeper appreciation for animated films and a deeper (or even new!) love for God. I also hope listeners learn to look for deeper messages in movies for themselves and recognize how themes that resonate with their faith are all around them, even in "secular" media.

What's been the biggest challenge for you?

1. Accepting that podcasting is a learning process and I will never be perfect at it. It's better to put something out there and treat it as a learning experience than to never get it out into the world because it will never be perfect. 2. Getting listeners!

How can your listeners support your show?

The biggest thing listeners can to do to support the show is to keep listening and let others know about it! Like/follow @toonmyheart on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter; leave a rating/review on Goodpods or whatever platform you like to listen on; tell your friends about new episodes on social media or in person; etc. Feedback, questions, and comments are also always welcome at [email protected]. Podcasting can be a lot of work, and a little encouragement goes a long way!

Any future plans that you'd like to share?

In Season 2, I plan to branch out beyond Disney movies into some of the great animated films from other studios, including Puss In Boots: The Last Wish. If you have a particular film you'd like to see me do an episode on, please reach out and let me know!

Anything else you'd like to share?

Animation is cinema!
