Podcaster Q&A

Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

I started my career in sports medicine as a certified athletic trainer, working various settings such as high school athletics, then collegiate athletics, with brief sting in Triple A minor league baseball. 6 years after my career began, I completed my Physician Assistant Certification at Cornell University PA Program at NY Presbyterian Cornell in NYC. Since 2007 I've been working as a PA in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine having treated patients and performed thousands of procedures.

Why did you get into podcasting?

I wanted to bring my expert analysis and perspective on sports injuries. I became increasingly frustrated and confused about the various reports in the media (video and social) about injuries to top athletes in their respective sports. Increasingly NON experts were analyzing media sources about sports injuries and getting it very wrong. I want to be that guy people turn to for answers, so what better way to reach an audience than through podcasting.

How did the idea for the show come about?

Based on my previous experiences in athletics and sports medicine throughout my playing career and career as a healthcare professional, I developed the idea for my podcast.

What do you hope listeners take from the show?

I hope that they can gain greater appreciation for the medical intricacies that go into diagnosing and treating athletes who are injured on the field of play. I also, they can gain more insight into the complexity of those injuries and how that information can shape the athlete's recovery and thus their return to competition. I also want to temper expectations of fans when athletes do return, so as to provide more realistic expectations for fans to have.

What's been the biggest challenge for you?

networking with other podcasters and media outlets to try and get my message out there and provide the information I seek to provide.

How can your listeners support your show?

Listen. Comment, share. ask questions! Not just of me, but of others who may not be experts, and if they do not give satisfactory answers, then point them in my direction and let's clear things up!

Any future plans that you'd like to share?

Not right now, but there is definitely more to come, so stay tuned!!!
