Podcaster Q&A

Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

I started out designing stickers for slow cars to make em look like they go faster. Then I was a cartoonist for The National Enquirer, People magazine, Australian Women's Forum, and Charter magazine (for accountants!). I never got to hear readers laugh at my cartoons so I became a stand-up comedian. I made it to the grand final of the Australian Comic of the Year in Sydney but I didn't win and never gave up my day-job. I studied marketing and I now work for a mental health charity

Why did you get into podcasting?

It's always good to have a creative project, especially where you have a chance to use previous skills and also be very silly. I stopped an old man and he turned to me as if to say, "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you" ... so here we are.

How did the idea for the show come about?

I'm forced to listen to Smooth Music Radio all day at work. Music reputed to be mild and inoffensive ... eventually I paid attention to the lyrics and realised how strange some of the messages are and how wildly they can be interpreted. The Norse God, Odin, came to me while I was sitting on the toilet and he commanded me to start a podcast to investigate all the Smooth hits of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s and 20s. I was joined on this quest by a faithful childhood friend, called Dave.

What do you hope listeners take from the show?

Some laughs, a sense of wonder, a blessing of the rains down in Africa

What's been the biggest challenge for you?

I know that I must do what's right, ss sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti ... and I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become

How can your listeners support your show?

There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do ... except leave a nice review, subscribe, and be part of the show by leaving us a message on speakpipe. See podcast description for links.

Any future plans that you'd like to share?

Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

Anything else you'd like to share?

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
