Podcaster Q&A
Tell us about yourself – what is your background?
Illustrator/Graphic Designer who has spent over 30 years in the book publishing/kid marketing industry. Have worked for Scholastic Books, Reader's Digest, Topps Trading Card Co., Hasbro, Marvel, DC, Lucasfilm and New Line Cinema just to name a few!
Why did you get into podcasting?
The TMI: Confessionals of the Nerd Kind podcast was founded out of desperation to remain in touch with my like-minded movie nerd friends. Started in 2018 we now have over 300 episodes!
How did the idea for the show come about?
Originally we had 5 co-hosts and the format would have been similar to an Entertainment Tonite type of show where each host had their own segment (Movies Reviews, Entertainment News, Gossip, etc.) but quickly became a show in which we would review one new movie and pair it up with a classic - usually something that was thematically similar. We rate movies on a 1-5 Popcorn Bucket scale
What do you hope listeners take from the show?
We just hope to be entertaining and bring as much useless info about a movie as possible. Our opinions don't really matter - the main goal is to get movies in front of someone who might not have considered watching it or never even heard of it!
What's been the biggest challenge for you?
Growing listeners is a constant struggle. We have a core listener base but outside of Twitter, IG and FB have little ability to promote it. Although we HAVE run ads in our local theaters and taken up tables at local comic cons where we offer up prizes for movie trivia knowledge.
How can your listeners support your show?
Liking/Sharing/5-Star Reviews obviously help the algorithm!! We also have a TeePublic page with t-shirt designs. The TeePublic is really our only source of income.
Any future plans that you'd like to share?
We just made the decision to go bi-weekly but otherwise chugging along! As long as we enjoy the process, we will keep creating content
Anything else you'd like to share?
Just a hearty THANK YOU to everyone who listens!! And a big THANK YOU to Goodpods for creating a space for our little independent show to hopefully find an audience
