Tell us about yourself – what is your background?
My name is Gaius Bolling and, after attending Los Angeles Film Academy, I began doing freelance video editing before going full-time into entertainment journalism. I began my own Instagram influencer page for film and TV (@g_reelz) which is at 110K followers currently and I have written for publications such as ReelTalkInc, Joblo.com, and CBR (Comic Book Resources). I've interviewed various celebrities for press junkets and continue to write across various publications today!
Why did you get into podcasting?
Always was interested. I did a little bit of it for ReelTalkInc but myself and my good friend Owen Erickson began talking about doing it seriously over two years ago. After a lot of talk, I was given an opportunity from Playlyst Studios through my Instagram page to launch my own podcast and I would be allowed to focus on all the content while they would assist on the technical side, mostly with editing. Once that partnership was launched, me and buddy started Back To The Blockbuster.
How did the idea for the show come about?
The idea came about because myself and my buddy Owen love talking about movies. We really wanted to take the conversations we had in private about film and see if listeners would be interested in hearing our takes on the movies. The concept for the show changed a bit from the initial idea with more of a focus on film and TV industry news but we got it back to more movie review style shows through our bi-weekly spinoff, Back To The Blockbuster Presents: Deep Dives With Owen and Gaius.
What do you hope listeners take from the show?
I hope they get a sense of fun from hearing us talk about movies and the latest in entertainment news. On the main show you get to hear me and our co-host Jackson Pye have a fun time breaking down all the biggest hot topics in the industry. We also cover milestone movie anniversaries to mix things up on that in. The spinoff with Owen is also a really fun show because we switch off picking a movie to deep dive into and we try to be informative while also bringing humor to each film we cover.
What's been the biggest challenge for you?
The biggest challenge was finding our identity. The show went through a lot of changes early on and we had co-hosts come and do. Thankfully, since about January of 2023, the show has been remarkably consistent. Jackson is a fantastic addition to the show and, through the spinoff, one of the original founders of the show, Owen Erickson, gets to be on with a more relaxed bi-weekly schedule that's easier to manage. We honestly feel rejuvenated by just how consistent both shows have been lately.

Any future plans that you'd like to share?
Planning on giving the podcast more of a YouTube presence for those that want to watch and listen. We also have a ton of great content scheduled through the end of the year so we're prepared for a great few months on Back To The Blockbuster.
