Erin shares a personal story from her 36th birthday, where she thought she’d lost a loved one, only to reinforce the empathy, sadness, and dismay, she and others are feeling with the shocking loss of Kobe, his daughter, and the seven others aboard that helicopter.
Erin didn’t grow up a Kobe fan. She openly shares her immaturity and how she was quick to judge, during the 2003 sexual assault accusations. She states how she was disappointed in Vanessa, Kobe’s wife, for sticking by his side. Fast forward to present day, the more mature Erin recognizes she missed out on the opportunity to watch this man redeem himself over the years as he morphed into a better person, a better husband, and an amazing father...A LEGEND.
What Erin once saw as a weakness in Vanessa, her forgiving her husband and the father of her children. She now recognizes, was a sign of strength. Vanessa sets the ultimate example of the power of forgiveness and giving someone a second chance.
The silver lining of this tragedy has been witnessing the outpouring of love, appreciation, and compassion. In a time where the country is so divided, feeling the sense of community, empathy, and seeing the respect Los Angeles and the entire world has for Kobe Bryant is nothing short of amazing.
