Nate here. We lost one of my idols this weekend with the passing of Michael Nesmith. Nez meant a lot to me and played an enormous role in my musical upbringing, and I wanted to pay tribute. Also included are a few covers of some Nez tunes; “Some of Shelly’s Blues” (5:37), “What Am I Doin’ Hangin’ ‘Round” (8:02), & “Different Drum” (11:00). I hope you enjoy. RIP Papa Nez.

Podcast Q&A
Why did you start this show?
I had been looking for a way to get back into the podcasting space and during the pandemic was inspired by seeing my fellow musicians livestreaming and trying to make the best out of a terrible situation. So I wanted to have a way to shine a spotlight on those creatives that I thought deserved some well earned attention.
What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?
It's a basic hope, but my goal from the start has been to help people find good music and art that they may have otherwise never been exposed to. If someone walks away from an episode with a new favorite song or a new favorite artist, well then, heck... that would just warm the heart.
Which episode should someone start with?
I feel like any and every episode is kind of designed to be a good entry point for any one who wants to listen, but if I were to pick one that I think perfectly showcases what this show can be, I would say my season 4 episode 6 interview with Taylor Goldsmith of the band Dawes.
Which have been your favourite episodes so far?
How can I pick just one!? They're all my babies! Haha Jokes aside, season 3 episode 2 with Michael McDermott is probably the episode that means the most to me. Not only was it just an incredible conversation with a brilliant musician who more people should know about, but it was the first episode that *felt* like what I always imagined this show would & could be.
Which episode are you most proud of?
Another tough choice! Season 3 episode 16 with G. Love probably fits this bill as G. has been a major influence on my music career and was one of my stretch goals in terms of guests I wanted to speak to on the show. So to not only be able to talk to him and pick his brain, but also to be able to tell him how much his music meant to me fills me with an enormous sense of pride.
What is your vision for your show?
My vision is now and has always been to champion the creatives that inspire and excite me and do whatever I can to expose my listeners to someone who they may have overlooked or never heard.
What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?
Oh, good question. In the same space, I love the 25 O'Clock Podcast hosted by Dan Drago, focusing on artists & bands that call Philly their home. Talkin' Slayer hosted by D.X. Ferris is an expert examination of the legendary thrash metal band. Switched On Pop with Charlie & Nate is a master class in music and should be required listening for any music fan. And for pure joy, I love the Midnight Boys on the Ringer Verse podcast feed. No one chops up pop culture better than they do.
How did you come up with the name for your podcast?
Jawn is famously some Philly lingo that literally means anything you want it to be. Person, Place or Thing. Like a pal said once, Philly uses Jawn like the Smurfs use Smurf. So the name is in reference to anything you love so much and are passionate about that makes you uncontrollably tilt your head back and shout to the world, "Yooooooo! That's my jawn!"
Tell us a bit about yourself
I'm a singer/songwriter/podcaster/author/DJ/all-around-good guy who hails from the suburbs of Philadelphia. In a former life, I was the creator of the popular satire website, Cartoon Girls I Wanna Nail, which was featured in Complex magazine, the Washington Post and Maureen Dowd’s 2005 book, Are Men Necessary? I've performed in the bands the Swinging Cannons, the Impact Players & solo under the moniker nate.3.0. Most importantly, I like liking things.
