Michael Smith from Peacock’s Brother from Another joins the show to talk about the NBA but ends up talking about pretty much everything with Vincent Goodwill.

The show starts with a debate over Michael’s favorite D’Angelo album (and his rather personal history with it) before he and Vincent discuss the NBA’s new CBA and the one controversial thing that was left out of it: Allowing high school players to jump straight to the NBA.

Later, Vincent and Michael preview the playoffs the best way they know how: Picking matchups (realistic or not) that they would love to see happen in this year’s postseason, including their dream NBA Finals matchup.

Finally, Vincent can’t get over the things Victor Wembanyama is doing on the basketball court and he’s wondering how good a player would have to be for an NBA GM to not be willing to trade them for Wembanyama, so we asked Michael Smith that exact question and let him decide.

05:15 New CBA: One & Done remains

Vincent Goodwill is joined by Bomani Jones for a conversation that travels all the way around the NBA, from Victor Wembanyama to James Harden to the Milwaukee Bucks and more, before Dan Devine shows up to talk through Level 1 of our NBA Levels project.

00:00 - Welcome to the show, Bomani Jones!

04:25 - Victor Wembanyama

19:25 - James Harden

31:55 - Terry Stotts leaves MIL

35:55 - Youth vs. Veterans

43:55 - 5 Questions

48:10 - NBA Levels - Level 1

On this episode of Good Word with Goodwill, Vincent Goodwill is joined by Bomani Jones to talk about relaunching The Right Time with Bomani Jones and all things NBA heading into an exciting regular season.

Vincent and Bomani spend a good chunk of time talking about Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama, who is already doing things in the preseason that feel impossible and might be the best thing to happen to the NBA because many will be tuning into his regular season games.

James Harden has been taking personal days away from the Philadelphia 76ers and seems stuck without a way out to the Los Angeles Clippers, who have shown only tepid interest and may not have a spot for him in the starting lineup anyway.

Former Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts resigned from the Milwaukee Bucks because he did not want to be answering to rookie head coach Adrian Griffin, leading Vince to wonder if associate head coaches are a good thing to have and leaving Bomani to wonder what Terry was expecting in the job to begin with.

After talking about if this is the year that youth finally overtakes the veterans for dominance in the NBA, Bomani leaves and is replaced by Dan Devine, who goes through the six guys in Level 1 of our NBA Levels project. These are the guys capable of being the best player on a championship team this year...so why is Luka Doncic on this list?

On this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill, Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill covers the breaking news of the Cleveland Cavaliers hiring Kenny Atkinson as their new head coach. Vince wonders if the team ownership getting involved in the process is good for the organization, but he still has high hopes for Evan Mobley and the future of the Cavs.

We haven’t had a chance to discuss the Los Angeles Lakers officially hiring JJ Redick as their new head coach, and Vinnie is curious if the other players in the locker room will view Redick or LeBron James as the actual person in charge.

The Detroit Pistons fired Monty Williams last week, another move made by team ownership more than the front office, and now we’ll wait to see which free agent coach they hire to replace him and what they do with Cade Cunningham’s extension.

After detailing why the Chicago Bulls would trade for Josh Giddey, and how Alex Caruso fits with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Vinnie welcomes Yahoo Sports NBA draft analyst Kysten Peek to the show to preview the festivities, predict what the Hawks will do with the #1 pick, and provide her hottest take on Zach Eden.

Finally, Tom Haberstroh joins Vincent to talk about his article on Yahoo Sports that laid out the case for doubt around the legitimacy of Michael Jordan’s 1988 Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Chris Haynes invites Vincent Goodwill onto Posted Up to debate the MVP and Most Improved Player awards. Vincent Goodwill and Isis "Ice" Young discuss the 76ers' injury issues, Lonzo Ball's long-awaited return, WNBA Finals thoughts and a lot more!

(01:15) - Can Paul George carry the 76ers?

(12:05) - Lonzo Ball's long-awaited return to the NBA

(21:00) - WNBA Finals: Liberty & Lynx tied 1-1

(28:15) - Which NBA team will jump into the playoffs this year?

(36:25) - Which NBA coaches are already on the hot seat?

(40:20) - Capture the Flagg: Who is tanking for the #1 pick?

On this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill, Vincent Goodwill and Isis "Ice" Young get caught up on the WNBA Finals and the NBA's preseason.

They start with the Philadelphia 76ers, who found out that Paul George's knee injury is a bone bruise and announced that Joel Embiid wouldn't be playing until the start of the regular season. More importantly, Embiid told a reporter that he likely won't play back-to-back games for the rest of his career. Vince and Ice have thoughts on big men who don't play every game.

Lonzo Ball is slated to be on an NBA court tonight for the Chicago Bulls, almost three years and three knee surgeries removed from the last time he played. Ice has been through similar knee injuries, and she talks about the mental part of recovery.

Game 3 of the WNBA Finals is tonight in Minnesota, and Ice still likes her pick of the Lynx to win it all in 5 games....or maybe even 4? Find out why she still thinks the Liberty can't keep up with the Lynx, even after their impressive game 2 victory.

When discussing which NBA team could jump from outside the playoffs into title contention, both Vinnie and Ice focused on the Memphis Grizzlies. If they can stay healthy, and if Zach Edey is the player they think he can be, this team could be really good right away.

Finally, Vinnie and Ice break down the NBA coaches starting the season on the hot seat before wondering which teams will have the most success tanking their way to the #1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, where Cooper Flagg remains the biggest prize.

On this episode of No Cap Room, Jake Fischer reports in on what he’s hearing on the ground at the NBA’s G League Showcase in Orlando, Florida, including which players are potentially available on the trade market and which types of players teams like the Cavaliers, Rockets and Thunder might be looking for.

Dejounte Murray is one name that’s out there as potentially available, and Dan has an idea of which team should trade for him. It’s an idea built on the holiday season and reconciliation and Jake thinks mistletoe should be involved.

There are five marquee NBA matchups coming up on Christmas Day, so we had Dan Devine put each one into the category of “presents under the tree”, “stocking stuffer” or “lump of coal”. Each of these games has a lot of potential, but health might end up determining how good the basketball really is.

Finally, Jake went to his 17th wedding of the year and came away with a fun story about meeting a listener of the podcast.
