Yahoo Fantasy Forecast - Talking money-making quarterbacks and underrated wide receivers
play

06/24/20 • 50 min

Welcome back to a new episode of the Yahoo Sports Fantasy Football Podcast! Matt Harmon is joined by Dalton Del Don to talk all things football.

Some big football news came in the form of Dak Prescott signing the franchise tag in 2020. Now that he’s locked in for the season, will he be a top 3 fantasy quarterback this year? (1:40)

Speaking of quarterbacks that are about to make a lot of money, Matt is working on a series titled, “Players that will tell the story of the season.” And one of the guys he’s looking at is Patrick Mahomes.

It’s kind of wild to say this about an MVP and Super Bowl winner, but does Mahomes have an ever higher ceiling that we’ve seen? (7:40)

Will a rising tide named DeAndre Hopkins lift all boats in the Arizona offense? (15:40)

Elsewhere in fantasyland, Matt lists some underrated wideouts he likes this season (30:36):

  • Terry McLaurin
  • Diontae Johnson
  • Marquise Brown
  • Sterling Shepard
  • Anthony Miller
  • Curtis Samuel

With a list of names like this, is there a reason to grab a WR early in drafts? Dalton and Matt discuss.

Welcome to the Yahoo Sports Fantasy Football Podcast! Liz Loza is joined by none other than Jason Moore of The Fantasy Footballers to talk all things football and fantasy on this latest episode.

[Create or join a 2020 Yahoo Fantasy Football League for free today]

Since Jason has nailed a top-10 accuracy score on FantasyPros ranking of experts for three straight years, we ask him how he's approaching his drafts in a COVID-19-impacted season and his guiding principles when it comes to draft day. (04:20)

Next up, Liz and Jason discuss two sleeper wide receivers, one who should smash his ADP and another who might be held back by poor quarterback play. (14:08) Plus, Jason shares his thoughts on the ever-confusing Austin Ekeler (29:15)

One of the biggest headlines of the week Liz and Jason discuss is Derrick Henry signing a big extension for 4 years, $50 million. It’s the kind of extension that disagrees with the notion of running backs being replaceable — is Derrick Henry’s deal the start of more? (36:37)

Next up, Liz and Jason discuss a couple of names who are jumping out at them in drafts along with some players they’re avoiding.

They also discuss the fantasy outlook of the Washington team, especially now that Kelvin Harmon suffered an ACL injury. Aside from Terry McLaurin, who else can we trust on this team? Is Antonio Gibson about to see his draft cost skyrocket? (44:24)

Please remember to rate, review, and subscribe on your podcast provider of choice and send us your questions for future episodes on Twitter @YahooFantasy. Or at the very least, don't draft our sleeper picks in mock drafts. Shh!

With the big game just a few days away, Liz Loza and Matt Harmon preview the matchup and much more from Radio Row in Miami on the latest fantasy football podcast!

Before they get to that, breaking news out of Chicago: Mitchell Trubisky went under the knife to fix an injured shoulder. Could this cure his passing woes from 2019? Too bad it was his non-throwing shoulder that was injured the whole time. Loza continues to lament the QB situation in the Windy City. (0:35)

Later, our experts give their initial thoughts on staying down in Miami, plus their experiences on Media Night, where Liz got the cold shoulder from Tevin Coleman. (3:05)

The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs both provided a lot of fantasy goodness last season, and they’ll have some intriguing and interesting situations at both running back and wide receiver in 2020.

Raheem Mostert has established himself as the leader of the 9ers backfield in recent weeks, but considering how things were playing out early in the season (with Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida shining in individual moments), is Mostert worthy of high draft capital next season? On the other side of the spectrum, will Damien Williams finally be a trustworthy season-long asset, or will we be teased with the upside of Darwin Thompson yet again? (10:20)

At wide receiver, both teams have talented youngsters who will be entering Year 2: Deebo Samuel for the 49ers and Mecole Hardman for the Chiefs. The 2019 rookie wide receiver class was truly incredible — and an even better one might be coming in 2020. (15:25)

After discussing all that, Liz and Matt give their final thoughts and predictions for Super Bowl LIV! (22:25)

With the NFL trade deadline less than a week away, some teams have already begun to make moves. Liz Loza and Matt Harmon discuss those trades and much more in the latest fantasy football podcast.

Mohamed Sanu and Emmanuel Sanders are both on new teams, and in better situations, too. Sanu is now on the undefeated Patriots, who lost WR Josh Gordon to the IR (0:50), and Sanders is on the undefeated 49ers (7:30). Liz and Matt discuss those trades and how they impact the fantasy landscape.

Gordon wasn't the only big name fantasy player to hit the injured reserve. The Detroit Lions placed RB Kerryon Johnson on the IR and our experts diagnose whether Ty Johnson, the most added player in Yahoo leagues, is the answer (13:00).

[Play in Yahoo’s NFL $250K Baller. $10 entry fee and $25K to first place]

Earlier in the week, Yahoo Fantasy’s very own James Koh tweeted out a graphic of where the top players in ADP currently stand through seven weeks of the season and ... well ... it’s not pretty. To think, the likes of Odell Beckham Jr., Joe Mixon, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Saquon Barkley are nowhere near the top-20 at their position is unreal. Liz and Matt break down this stunning group and offer up some suggestions for dealing with the reality of this situation in fantasy (19:00).

After discussing all that, our experts preview some interesting Week 8 matchups in Tampa Bay vs. Tennessee (the Ryan Tannehill era is here!) and Philadelphia (can the Eagles get it together on offense?) vs. Buffalo (37:40). They then wrap up the show giving some daily fantasy bargains and fades for the week (46:45).

Oh, and don’t forget to join the Week 8 NFL $250K Baller daily fantasy contest. Just a $10 entry fee! $25,000 to the first place winner!

Dalton Del Don is joined by Chris Allen from 4 for 4 football to talk about busts to avoid in the first round, quarterbacks you should steer away from and backup running backs that might be worth a late-round pick on the latest episode of the Yahoo Fantasy Football Forecast!

It’s often said you can’t win your fantasy league in the first round, but you can lose it. Chris and Dalton look through the players projected to be in the mix during the first round of fantasy drafts to highlight any potential landmines and how your first pick sets the tone for the rest of your draft. (03:35)

And, Chris walks us through his strategy at the quarterback position, including 3 that he advises you to avoid and 1 he suggests you target late in drafts. (19:30)

Every year, a handful of running backs break out from their understudy roles and take over their backfields full-time. Who will be the lucky few this year? Dalton and Chris look through running back depth charts around the league to see who’s rising and could potentially help your fantasy teams — while being had for free in fantasy drafts. (35:30)

Remember to stay tuned to the Yahoo Fantasy Football Forecast, which will now have FIVE new episodes per week!

We’ve all had predictions that turn out to be wrong. We’ve all had bad takes that come back to haunt us. It’s a part of life and the human need to try and make an opinion as close to a fact as possible. The key is to learn something from that burnt take.

Liz Loza and Matt Harmon have had some of their own, and they discuss those takes and much more in the latest fantasy football podcast.

[Create or join a 2020 Yahoo Fantasy Football League for free today]

But first, we look at some of the news around the NFL. Falcons OC Dirk Koetter said about RB Todd Gurley that "The main question, that no one seems to know, is what is his health status?” If the OC doesn’t know ... who does? (01:41)

Colts WR T.Y. Hilton recently said, "I want to be a Colt” in reference to his contract status ... which is not a sentence you need to say if a team already wants you back. Are we buying or selling Hilton in a Rivers-led offense? (10:10)

Our Tennessee Titans 2020 preview went live, and our experts give their thoughts on Derrick Henry's chances of becoming the overall #1 running back for the year. (Hint: they're not high, but that doesn't mean you should avoid him this year.) (17:15)

Most recently, Matt looked back at his failed 2019 takes on both Alvin Kamara and Davante Adams. Liz, too, had a burnt 2019 take, on David Johnson. They discuss the three questionable takes in detail, what to expect from them in 2020, and why it's important to focus on process not results. (19:05)

Yahoo Fantasy Forecast - Rams win Stafford sweepstakes, KC vs. TB preview and DFS guide
play

02/02/21 • 39 min

Andy Behrens and Liz Loza are here to discuss Matt Stafford packing his bags for Los Angeles and preview Yahoo's DFS game for this Sunday's matchup between Kansas City and Tampa Bay on the latest episode of the Yahoo Fantasy Football Forecast!

First up, Andy and Liz look at Matt Stafford's trade to the Los Angeles Rams. Will Stafford's big arm be a match for Sean McVay's offense? Can Jared Goff redeem himself in Detroit with less pressure? How do we feel about Cam Akers and D'Andre Swift with new signal callers?

And apparently there happens to be a somewhat important football game this weekend. Liz and Andy handicap the matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and also give their tips and strategy for Yahoo's newly-launched DFS matchup for the big game. Players will be working with a $200 budget looking to fill 5 positions from any position on the field, with one of those players designated a 'Superstar' with 1.5X Multiplier with 4 Flex spots. Should you load up on Patrick Mahomes ($81), Tom Brady ($70), or seek value with picks like Scotty Miller ($11) and Sammy Watkins ($17)?

As usual, this week’s odds are courtesy of BetMGM.

There's no way around it: Losing Justin Herbert for the season stinks for fantasy, reality and everything in between. On an emotionally loaded episode of 'Ekeler's Edge' the L.A. RB opens up to Matt Harmon about what Herbert means to him as teammate and a franchise QB after he sustained a season ending injury in Week 14. Ekeler and Harmon also discuss if this year has become 'the year of the backup QB' in the NFL given all the injuries at the position.

Ekeler then shares what a player's perspective is like when a team is in a losing season and how some in sports media often try to exploit quotes to create drama and clicks. The two then discuss ways to rise above it and Ekeler shares a motivational speech Kobe Bryant once gave him and the team about drowning out the noise.

Harmon and Ekeler then provide an update on the Ekeler Invitational league where Austin's team goes into the postseason as a No. 4 seed but needs to find a new QB with Herbert being out for the year. Harmon pitches the best available options on the waiver wire that can keep Austin's team afloat for a championship run.

The two then end the pod by providing their bold fantasy predictions for Week 15:

4:22 - Austin Ekeler reacts to Justin Herbert injury

9:46 - The impact of sports media toxicity in a losing season

17:48 - How this year became 'the year of the backup QB'

25:45 - Competition for carries? Ekeler responds to Staley's comments

30:22 - Ekeler Invitational update: Harmon misses out on playoffs, Ekeler gets No. 4 seed

31:58 - Ekeler needs a QB to pickup for fantasy playoffs, Harmon pitches a few options

41:15 - Bold fantasy predictions for Week 15
