#241 - With Ivan Pedersen (Phan & Colourist)
X-Band: The Phantom Podcast
01/25/23 • 70 min
Something a little special this time around as we interview Norwegian Ivan Pedersen who is a long time phan & has worked on 6+ publishers living the dream as a phan. Majority of phans who have a social media profile would know off Ivan. Jermayn Parker flies solo chatting with Ivan as they hash out some online arguments throughout the last 20 years.
It is a rather in depth interview as we start at the beginning and go through his phan years to working on the character. As we found out, he has helped coloured stories, consulted and provided scans of original newspaper strips for a lot of publishers including Frew, Fantomet, Comics Revue, Hermes, Zauberstern and Dolmen. Has their been any other phan or person who has worked with more publishers?
You will learn how Ivan ticks including his views on black and white verses colour and surprisingly the one Lee Falk story he would scrap from his collection of stories - yes you read that right!
We also get Ivan's opinions on some subjects like our Phantom Bible, modifying or adding to Lee Falk's lore, being called a troll, publishers printing three or four daily panels to a line and much more.
If you want to learn more about buying comics from his Facebook group here or you find his Fantomet (Norway) / Frew & newspaper stories index here.
If you are a patreon of Chronicle Chamber, make sure you login to your patreon account as we have a bonus chat with Ivan which is just for our patreons.
If you have any feedback on the subjects touched up, you can email us at [email protected] or chat with us via our social media profiles with your feedback at Facebook, Twitter and or Instagram.

#256 - Pitching a Phantom TV Series
X-Band: The Phantom Podcast
07/16/23 • 115 min
We are getting excited about the confirmation on the official KFS Phantom page that a new TV series is in development. Obviously with the very small notice given we don’t know much at all, but that’s not going to stop us speculating wildly!
For big news like this, we’ve got Chronicle Chamber members from all over the world to share in the excitement with Mikael Lyck, Ankit Mitra and Duncan Munro joining Dan Fraser and Jermayn Parker. Given we know next to nothing (read “absolutely nothing”) about what this series is actually going to look like, we decided to make out like this podcast as a pitch meeting with KFS where each of us pitch our concept to the showrunners, hoping to get greenlit for our idea to make the series.
The five elevator pitches are:
- A Defenders reboot, centred around a near-future Kit Walker NYPD who grows into his Phantom legacy as a team develops to battle a new-age Ming.
- A two-speed narrative, with a season-long Presidential coup in the 21st Phantom’s time developing alongside episode-length tales of past Phantom’s from the Chronicles.
- A post-apocalyptic world creates a Mad Max-style ‘jungle’, where the story of a mysterious Phantom fighting for the moral good is told almost exclusively through the eyes of others.
- We follow the earliest adventures.of the 21st Phantom as he develops, through to the eventual avenging of his father’s murder by Rama Singh.
- A “Year One” style series with a new young Phantom developing his craft, with a focus on character development and a secondary "Year One" storyline of the very first Phantom.
Please note, we had some connection issues with the recording of this podcast so please bare with any glitches on the video and or audio.
Some generic questions about the Phantom TV Series we discussed and would love your input as well:
- All but Ankit Mitra had a tv show with a 'Year One' theme. Would you like to see that or an established Phantom?
- Does the show need to be about the 21st Phantom?
- Would a Defenders of the Earth themed TV Show work with Flash, Lothar and Mandrake?
- Is establishing the lore important throughout the show for 'new' fans?
- Does Billy Zane have to be involved somehow?
- What is more important with your actors? Their voice, strength or their acting skills?
- Are we allowed to show the Phantoms eyes throughout the show?
- Can we have Singh as bad guys? The 1996 Phantom movie, famously changed them to Sangh.
- Does the Phantom need to stay in the jungle during the TV show?
- How can the TV Show find the balance to be removed from the 'White Saviour' problem like Tarzan and other super heroes from a bygone era?
If you have any feedback on our pitches, you can email us at [email protected] or chat with us via our social media profiles with your feedback at Facebook, Twitter and or Instagram. Please also let us know of your own pitch.

#191 - With KFS, The Phantom Custodians
X-Band: The Phantom Podcast
06/16/21 • 97 min
Every since we started this website and the X-Band: The Phantom Podcast one of the most common questions we have received is when will we get to hear from someone from King Features and or Hearst?
It has always been a goal for us as we ourselves had a million and one questions that we wanted to ask. After 200 podcasts we got the chance and while we did not get to ask them all, we spent 90 minutes racing through as many questions as possible.
A huge thanks must go to Tea Fougner who is the comics editor for the Phantom plus 60 other comic titles. She was great in answering as many questions as possible and some were not easy to answer.
A brief list of the questions we asked in no particular order are:
- What is the approval process of new stories from Tony DePaul, Egmont and Frew Publishers?
- Is there a Phantom bible?
- Will we ever see a new Phantom TV Show and or Movie?
- The process from KFS point of view of the Matt Kyme and Shane Foley "Diana and the Heartbreakers Gang" story in Frew #1892.
- The Phantom and cross over stories with The Raven, Sir Falcon, Flash Gordon, Defenders of the Earth etc
- Moonstone verses Dynamite Entertainment.
- What is the target audience of the Phantom?
- Targeting the next generation.
- The 100th Anniversary of The Phantom.
It must be noted that she did choose not to answer one question but you will have to listen and or watch the podcast to find out which one.
She also went over the history of King Features and Hearst and how they relate to our hero, the Phantom.
As always the video will show slides, art examples and props as we discuss the Phantom. The audio only version is attached if you prefer that method. Make sure you subscribe and leave a review on our podcast and or our YouTube Channel.
We would love to hear from you on what you think of this podcast episode. You can email us at [email protected] or chat with us via our social media profiles: Facebook, Twitter and or Instagram.

#190 - The Phantom & The Phuture (with Guest Andrew Constant)
X-Band: The Phantom Podcast
06/07/21 • 77 min
*This is the 200th episode actually published.
In Frew 1893, Dudley Hogarth the Frew publisher in his Message from the Publisher suggested that the short story "The Future Phantom: Forever" may be worth a podcast. We listened and here is our thoughts of the 8 page story by Andrew Constant and Massimo Gamberi.
To begin with we go over every story and future Phantom which includes the 27th from the Defenders of the Earth TV Show, the 24th from the Phantom 2040 TV Show and a host of others from publishers like Fantomen and Dynamite Entertainment. Andrew also joins us and we go over the story with him.
What began as a 40 minute planned podcast has turned into a 80 minute discussion between Andrew Constant and the team (Jermayn Parker, Stephen East and Dan Fraser).
Where do you sit with this story? Did you like it? Do you want to see more? We would love to hear from you on what you think of this podcast episode. You can email us at [email protected] or chat with us via our social media profiles: Facebook, Twitter and or Instagram.
Andrew also drops a massive exclusive in the podcast on a new story he is working on at the moment. It is worth mentioning that there is the occasional swear word in this podcast - parental guidance is recommended.
As always the video will show slides, art examples and props as we discuss the Phantom. The audio only version is attached if you prefer that method. Make sure you subscribe and leave a review on our podcast and or our YouTube Channel.
As we touch upon the future phantoms we drop upon a few past X-Band: The Phantom Podcast's. If you want to dig those out, the links are:
