Introducing 27 Club Season 4: Amy Winehouse
Women in Hip Hop Podcast
12/02/21 • 1 min
Listen to Season 4 of the 27 Club to hear the insane details behind the life of one of rock's greatest icons — Amy Winehouse. With a voice that seemed to come from another time and an attitude that defied time itself, Amy Winehouse fused the past with the present to make music for the future. But as a central figure in the dawn of 24/7 tabloid and social media celebrity coverage, Amy Winehouse’s story is about much more than the music. At times, it’s about everything but the music. It’s a story of pop idols and police raids, of breakthroughs and breakdowns, of punch-ups and photographers, of triumphant comebacks and violent comedowns...and of a once-in-a-century talent that barely made it into the new century. Jake Brennan, the creator and host of the award-winning Disgraceland podcast, brings you an all new season of the 27 Club that is not to be missed. The 27 Club Season 4 launches on Thursday December 2, 2021.

EP.56 Connie Diiamond
Women in Hip Hop Podcast
02/22/23 • 60 min
Diiamond’s buzz began in 2016 with her freestyle atop Drake’s “Summer Sixteen” before a menacing 2021 rendition of DaBaby’s “Ball If I Want To” sparked a viral flame. Now the rapper is solidifying her position as the unstoppable voice from the Bronx. “I call myself the underdog sometimes, because people may think they know me,” she says. “But they don’t know how creative I can get.”
Since signing to Def Jam in Oct of 2022 Connie has catapulted her underdog status to rap mainstay all while staying true to her humble roots. Her relatability, she says, is the reason she’s striving in the rap game and doesn’t want to come across like she’s above anyone. So as her star status ascends, there’s a good chance you’ll still catch her around the neighborhood she calls home.
Diiamond’s genuine nature has also led to multiple co-signs in the rap industry.
She supported Azealia Banks on tour in 2017, spent time in the studio with Fabolous, and received
support from peers like Fivio Foreign and Remy Ma in which she credits as her biggest female rap inspiration. "Seeing her melanated skin and success in the rap made me say I can do this too." In this interview we discuss not just her music career but important topics like colorism and her health journey with gastric bypass surgery. "I never really discussed this, this is my first time"

EP.60 Tink
Women in Hip Hop Podcast
03/22/23 • 37 min
You never have to guess what Tink’s thinking. The Chicago-born songstress and rapper says it all in her music. She spits, speaks, and sings straight from the heart without filter or apology. At the same time, she breaks boundaries, dropping off bars with undeniable charisma and belting out hooks with show-stopping range. She can be romantic in one crescendo before getting raw in a bout of wild wordplay. This versatility consistently affirms her as a force in her own lane.
Following her 2011 debut mixtape Winter’s Diary, she dropped projects at a prolific pace, including Alter Ego, Blunts & Ballads, and Boss Up. 2014 saw Winter’s Diary 2: Forever Yours arrive to widespread critical acclaim, landing on year-end R&B album lists from Billboard and Rolling Stone. It also yielded “Treat Me Like Somebody,” which gathered 64 million Spotify streams and counting. A year later, XXL touted her among its coveted “Freshman Class.” Following a stint in the major label system, she embraced independence again with Winter’s Diary 4 [2016], Voicemails [2019], Hopeless Romantic [2020], and A Gift And A Curse [2020]. She collaborated with everyone from Sleigh Bells and Pentatonix to Future, G Herbo, 6lack, and K Camp. During 2021, she served up Heat of the Moment powered by “Rebel” [feat. Jeremih] and “Might Let You” [feat. Davido]. After raking in streams in the hundreds of millions and earning acclaim from Pitchfork, The FADER, HYPEBEAST, and more, she opens up like never before on her 2022 album, Pillow Talk.
The 16-track project features artists 2 Chainz, TOOSI,Fabolous, G Herbo, RussMuni Long, Layton Greene, and is executive produced by Hitmaka. “Pillow Talk” is a tour de force of Tink’s prowess as an R&B prodigy, encompassing technical elements of production, arrangements, and features and carefully balancing them against components such as exquisite lyricism and nuanced themes of being in love to self-love. From her early days signed with Timbaland and the restriction years of label politics, the 27 year old star is now declaring her autonomy in her career, and proudly owns all of her masters/catalog.
