Racism and YOU with advocate, entrepreneur and former MP, Celina Caesar-Chavannes Ep.47

06/15/20 • 50 min

Women Don't Do That (WDDT)

Normally we would have a reflection show this week, but given the context of the world right now, you will understand why we wanted to interview our next guest.

In the interview with Celina Caesar-Chavannes, we discuss racism. Where we are, where we need to go and what YOU can do to help get us there. We also discuss life after politics and other important issues, such as mental health. It’s an important talk about the hard stuff, dive in and let’s listen and grow together!

Celina Caesar-Chavannes is a champion for mental health, gender, race and equity.
She is the former Member of Parliament for Whitby in Ontario Canada, and served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Development.

Before politics, Celina owned a double award winning research management firm. She is highly educated with multiple degrees and is currently completing her PhD in Organizational Leadership at Northcentral University.

She has also volunteered her time to a number of causes including: a past member of the Governing Council at the University of Toronto and a member of the Congress of Black Women (to name only a few).

Celina was given the Champion of Mental Health Parliamentarian Award in May 2017 by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health. She was also named one of the Most Influential People of African Descent, Global 100 Under 40, Politics & Governance and Black Parliamentarian of the Year in 2017, and a feature in the April 2018 edition of O (Oprah Winfrey) Magazine entitled, “What would you stand up for?”. Celina was also named Chatelaine Magazine’s Woman of the Year 2019.
