Part 1 of 2
John P. Hickey was a teacher at St. Marys school in Augusta Maine for 37+ years until he retirement a few years ago. In that time he coached sports for over 30 of those years. He is/was an amazing educator that influenced so many students as they journeyed through adolescents and adult hood. His stories and sayings are legendary and if you mention certain words or phrases to the students that were lucky enough to have him along the way, they will instantly light up with their own version of their experiences.... Things like the presidents, the belts, his cars, Jeopardy, "really", pingpong, Boston trip, fido, the gales, "GUS", B Bars, "Be a Bruin" sarsaparilla and so much more.
Hick was the type of teacher that had an amazing sense of humor, knew everyones name including your brothers, sisters and possibly even the family dog. He never took himself too seriously and understood the true meaning of what was important. He never claimed to be a saint, but he was someone that so many of his students had a connection with, including myself.
Mr. Hick is why I personally wanted to become a teacher and coach, he made that much of a difference, and I am going to get him for that some day!!
We thank him for all he has done over the years, the long hrs and the no pay at times. It has been a true pleasure and I am glad to call you my friend to this day.
We take a few minutes and get Hick to open up a little about his life, growing up into adulthood, his teacher career and so much more... to hear these stories will bring you back in an instant and guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. Even if you never had the pleasure of having Mr. Hickey as a teacher, his storytelling about life will draw you in.
We hope you enjoy!

Interview with Dave Dostie Photographer
In today's podcast we sit down with Dave Dostie, a professional photographer who calls the state of Maine his home. Dave has a passion for the subjects in front of his lens and makes a point to come full circle back to his roots.
Dave is a self-taught Maine-based photographer where he balances full-time commitments to careers in photography and government finance. When he’s not out capturing Maine’s dynamic landscapes, his primary focus is refined to that of editorial photography with a specialized interest in documentary and lifestyle work from a photojournalistic approach. His passion for telling stories through his photographs is what he finds to be most rewarding. His main objective when photographing is to celebrate positivity whether it be through documenting amazing people, beautiful landscapes, or unique events. Aside from good light and proper exposure, it’s his opinion that emotion is what connects someone to an image – this is the balance he tries to create within each and every photograph.
We talk to Dave about his upbringing and hometown, his career, and the things that bring meaning to his life. During our conversation we get into his process behind the camera, his life and family, what he does in his "down time" and those "WhyNot" Moments that teach us so much about life.
We hope you join us.
