play

08/30/20 • 57 min

I can feel the temperature rising, can't you? You can't escape the images of anger and violence in today's society, but what are we all so mad about? Turns out, there are plenty of reasons real and imagined.  Periodically, humans seem to lose sight of all reason and embark on witch hunts. Even a cursory study of history shows over and over again we collectively need to hunt and burn perceived evil and impose our vision of good... and we seem to be doing it again. Let's talk about it.

We continue our 100 darkest moments in pop culture history with a look back at another concert disaster. This one happened before a concert by The Who in Cincinnati, OH in 1979 where 11 fans were crushed to death when the doors to the arena failed to open in time. Like several of the tragedies we've looked at so far, this one is compounded by the young age of the victims.

When It Was Cool Dark - DragonKing Dark Podcast - Alabama Snake - Episode 263
play

03/28/21 • 53 min

A special episode of DragonKing Dark Podcast combines true crime with religion and backwoods strangeness. There is a documentary on HBO Max that, I suppose, is their answer to the insanely popular Tiger King show. It's called Alabama Snake and it takes place just up the road from me. Tony from WhenItWasCool.com joins host Karl Stern to discuss the case of an Alabama snake handling preacher who used a rattlesnake to try and murder his wife. It's a heck of story.
