What Drives You with Kevin Miller

What Drives You with Kevin Miller

Kevin Miller | YAP Media

From host Kevin Miller: When I was 7 years old and got out of line, my parents would give me an “attitude adjustment” and make me listen to motivational speakers like Zig Ziglar. I didn’t appreciate it at the time but the experience gave me awareness of how powerful our minds and outlook on life are. I went on to become a pro athlete, have 9 kids, start 17 businesses and become addicted to performance and production. Till I burnt out. Multiple times. That started a quest to not just pursue performance, but to uncover my true potential which was far more than just what I did. It became about who I was and could be. I started podcasting as host of The Ziglar Show, in a stroke of irony. After countless conversations with the most influential thought leaders on the planet, I wrote a book called What Drives You to look at what we really want and understanding why we want it. I now host a podcast of the same name, What Drives You. I’ve had deep talks with over 270 experts in the Human Potential Movement and my shows have had over 70 million downloads. I’ve walked with well over 1,000 people as they pursue their own personal evolution. Today I don’t seek out the most popular leaders, but the most knowledgeable. I find the professors teaching classes, the therapists counseling with patients and the researchers in labs who understand what causes us to transform in today’s world. And what keeps us stuck. We don’t need more ideas. We need better understanding. I’m pursuing my own personal growth and evolution and invite you to learn and grow with me. Join me on the What Drives You podcast.

It is just a fact that we perform to the level of our belief in ourselves. How to increase that belief is the foundational effort of the entire personal development and self-help industry. I have a two minute message from Zig Ziglar on the reality of the perspective, then I asked the Ziglar audience for their testimonies with this post, “I'm looking for people who have experienced a significant improvement in their self-image. I want to know what the catalyst was for you.” What you will hear are first hand testimonies of where people were, what they did, and how it impacted their self-image. Tom Ziglar joined me to talk through the responses and we read through a good number. Sometimes hearing true stories like this of how people actually did it is more empowering than hearing counsel and guidance on how to do it.

What Drives You with Kevin Miller - 627: Lori Harder - How to create your supportive tribe
play

11/12/18 • 70 min

We talk with Lori Harder, about the power, necessity and opportunity of having a tribe. It’s just an irrefutable fact that people with strong social circles live longer, happier, healthier lives. But how do you achieve this for your own life? We cover it in a massively equipping conversation in this show. I asked Lori to join me because she has one of the top ranked health podcasts on the planet called "Earn your happy", she recently published a book titled "A Tribe Called Bliss", and she is just massively inspiring a lot of people. She grew up in an unhealthy, uninspiring home and it compelled her to go a radically different direction. She started off in the fitness world and ultimately became a three time fitness world champion. She's been featured on the cover of the world's top fitness magazines as a model 18 times, and published articles in those mags as well. But all that to me seems a small beginning compared to where she's gone from there. She now has two million dollar businesses and is a self-proclaimed personal development junkie. Friends, I read and review a lot of books. Her's...I asked for more of. I took some home. My wife dove in and gave books to HER tribe. Lori has some powerful insights that I'll wager you will find yourself lacking in and massively empowered by Lori to pursue and conquer. Personally she got me looking yet again at my boundaries, or lack of, and how I deal with expectations in my relationships, so I...can have a healthier tribe. Ultimately Lori’s book and message is based off the concept that you become who you are surrounded with! That you become the sum of the 5 people you are closet with! Sales class is here. I’ve got five minutes of sales expertise from Zig Ziglar where he simply states, “Questions are the answer!” He digs into the three types of questions in his “need analysis” with the goal to establish trust. He also covers the difference between motivating and manipulating your prospect. This is Ziglar Sales 101 and what amazes me is how in today’s world, so few people and companies know and follow successful sales structure. From Zig’s message I asked this question to the Ziglar Show audience, “What question(s) reveal whether someone is a good prospect for your product or service?” Many replies and I did a lot of questioning back to clarify people’s products and services amongst different industries and how they are literally using questions in their businesses. And some of course who are not doing it well. For all the business owners and salespeople in the Ziglar audience, this is a show for you! And if you know Ziglar and our belief that everyone is in sales, as sales is influence...then you know the show is for everyone listening.

There is little mystery in this interview, as Simon is astoundingly simple, direct and nearly irrefutable as he leads us in some primary tenants of personal success. This one will be hard to listen to only once.

If you had his attention all to yourself, what area of life or business would you ask Zig Ziglar’s counsel on? Few people on earth have been sought after for their guidance more than Zig. So I asked the question, “If you could have a 1 hour consultation with Zig Ziglar, what area of life or business would you get his advice on?” The responses covered such issues as faith, sales, relationships, working with family, regrets, self-image and much more. The responses were so many and so significant, Tom Ziglar and I spent nearly 1:45 addressing them, enough to turn this into a two part show. This may be some of the “best of” Ziglar you’ll find!

We continue our series on Happierness which we kicked off with Atlantic columnist and Harvard Professor, Arthur Brooks. Arthur’s new book with Oprah Winfrey is called Build The Life You Want: The Art and Science of Getting Happier. This issue of happiness is significant to me for two reasons: 1) happiness is such a hot topic because we as a culture are not finding ourselves...happy, and 2) I feel we are mostly dealing with the symptoms regarding happiness and not the root issues. To dig further into what I feel are root issues, I have with me...Jared Angaza. Jared is a strategist, activist, and storyteller behind many influential brands and campaigns. And he’s my brother and business partner and someone who I ponder the topics of drive and motive and meaning with...a lot

What Drives You with Kevin Miller - Shaunti Feldhahn: How Being Kind Benefits You More Than The Recipient
play

08/30/24 • 63 min

I really appreciate taking a topic where we think we know what drives us, and discovering the motives are actually coming from somewhere else. It allows us to come into better alignment and realize more benefit. In this case, the concept is kindness. We think we should be kind because it’s the right thing to do. And if we’re kind, then others will reciprocate and be kind to us in return. It’s usually under the “should” category of life. We “should” be kind. Especially to those we perceive as not so kind. Be kind to the person who cut you off in traffic. Be kind to the surly person behind the coffee counter. Be kind to your spouse who seems grumpy to you. When I’m interviewed on other podcasts, I’m often asked who some of my favorite guests have been or the most profound topics. I often cite Shaunti Feldhahn. Shaunti is a social researcher and best-selling author who investigates life-changing truths about relationships. I first got to know her through her book, “The Kindness Challenge – Thirty Days To Improve Any Relationship.” In it she uncovers that whether we thrive depends far more on how we choose to treat others than on how we ourselves are treated. The path to our happy place starts with one choice: whether or not to be kind. Especially when we really don’t want to be. The punchline? Being kind benefits us far more than who we choose to be kind to. I had this conversation with Shaunti nearly seven years ago and here I am still talking about it today. As I keep bringing her message back up, I’m re-publishing our talk so you can hear Shaunti’s full research. Find her at shaunti.com

What Drives You with Kevin Miller - Live A Bigger Life Because Of Your Trauma | Niyc Pidgeon
play

01/17/22 • 69 min

#959: In this episode, where therapy gives much focus to our past, modern day success coaching is focused primarily just on the future. A great fusion I found is what’s termed as “positive psychology.” As my guest, Niyc Pidgeon says, positive psychology looks at what is going right in our world, instead of what’s going wrong, but it also gives great gravity to our emotions and past traumas. The key however is harnessing it for our benefit instead of allowing it to diminish us. Niyc Pidgeon is an author, award winning positive psychologist, high performance coach, and investor and as you’ll experience in our following conversation, she’s an insightful and vivacious thought-leader who has had a profound impact on some big influencers, including Elon Musk. Niyc’s muse and the focus of her new book, Now Is Your Chance, is what perspectives will enable us to continue instead of quit? How will we better respond if we consider our commitments in regards to what will happen if we don’t do them versus if we do? Her perspective flies in the face of today’s negative media influences that are dragging much of the culture down and she gives us a breath of fresh air regarding how to turn our challenges into opportunities. You can connect with Niyc and get her book for free, at https://www.nowisyourchancebook.com.

What Drives You with Kevin Miller - Why Isn’t Busy A Badge Of Shame?

Why Isn’t Busy A Badge Of Shame?

What Drives You with Kevin Miller

10/15/24 • 15 min

After my conversation with renowned therapist Terri Cole in the last episode, I continue to consider my history of doing too much. That is the title of her new book,Too Much: A Guide To Breaking The Cycle of High-Functioning Codependency. With my nine kids and business and pursuit of personal growth and experiences, many, many people, my kids included, often come to me apologizing for taking my time, as they know I’m “so busy.” And it’s because they have seen me for so long, being too busy. And what I now realize is that I am, primarily because of poor choices. I’ve wanted my cake and to eat it too. I prided myself on being able to do too much because I’m stronger and more capable. How arrogant is that? I’m not promoting shame, but just posing the question that today I view being super busy as a badge of poor choices more than being important or valuable. And I’m pointing fingers. At myself. And there are always exceptions with people victimized and very busy that I have great compassion for. I have some further thoughts on the issue.

What Drives You with Kevin Miller - Patrick Lencioni: Grappling With Values & How To Balance Social Issues
play

08/05/24 • 91 min

We look at how our values fuel our drive and how they often come into friction with today’s sociopolitical issues that I feel we are pressured to all have a solid stance on. I see and have felt the tension it can cause. What we grapple with as individuals affects our work and where we work and the corporations that influence and employ much of the population. Patrick Lencioni is someone corporations look to as a guide. He is a highly in demand speaker and the author of thirteen best-selling books with over nine million copies sold. After more than twenty years in print, his classic book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, remains a fixture on national best-seller lists and with most businesses. His most recent book is The Six Types of Working Genius: A Better Way to Understand Your Gifts and I have widely evangelized his personal profiling tool at workinggenius.com where you can find out what your working genius is. I’ve had all my kids take it. Patrick recently wrote a blog titled, “How To Sew Unity In A Time Of

Division.” The article was aimed at CEOs and the issues they and employees are facing. But I took it as an opportunity to talk with someone whose insight I respect, about values overall and the struggle in our current culture to live them out. Patrick says, “The world changed with frightening speed in the past five years. That change wasn’t so much a shift as it was a divide. The emergence of a host of sociopolitical issues has created a massive rift in culture, one that is

unprecedented in the past 50 years.” We don’t get into politics. We don’t get into any specific cultural issue. We do have a conversation about values that Pat said was unlike any podcast conversation he’s ever had. My hope is this conversation helps you consider your values and your stance, or not...which I’ll discuss more in the next episode, on today’s cultural issues. Find Patrick at thetablegroup.com
