We Sing Poorly

This month's episode probably isn't our best effort, especially as a follow-up to last month's hit. Both Nick and Pat had super busy schedules for February, so the options were to either skip an episode or try to do two at the same time. Just like their singing, they chose poorly and decided to do two at the same time. Clearly all the focus and effort was put into last month's episode--Beauty and the Beast--as what we have this month is easily our shortest episode (and guestless). It also didn't help that Pat's sickness during the making of Beauty was at its all-time high when it came time to put all our focus here. In short, if you feel this episode seems rushed or not as high quality as some of the other episodes (or sung especially poorly), there is our reason why. So now that I've made you want to listen immediately, I hope you enjoy this episode where Pat and I discuss Chicago. We also have an almost equally long discussion on the Oscars (in general, not the previous showing, as this was recorded prior to them airing).

This month we decided to do something a little different with the show. I don't want to ruin the surprise, but it's probably one of my favorite episodes thus far. And I want to give a special shout-out to our guest, Mette of Lime Reviews and Strawberry Confessions, for being willing to go that extra mile for the show to make it happen. I also have to give it up to my co-host Pat, who not only had to sing his songs while sick, but also pulled himself out of bed at 5 AM to record the regular part of the show. And it still turned out great. So yes, this month, we're tackling Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Hello and welcome to the first episode of the We Sing Poorly podcast! Nick Jobe of Your Face! and Pat McDonnell of 100 Years in Movies join forces to form this opus, a podcast where they review musicals... in song! Don’t worry, the whole thing isn’t sung from start to finish, but there are a few numbers involved. Once a month they'll will tackle a new movie, hopefully with a guest joining in on the fun. But for this first outing, they go it alone. And they’re doing the film that inspired the podcast to begin with–2012′s Les Miserables. So join Pat and Nick on their first voyage into the land of song, and although they do our best (mostly), they can’t promise their singing won’t hurt your ears just a little.

This month's Show has some Rocky singing... hopefully nothing too Horrific, though. (OK, I apologize. I couldn't help myself.) This month Pat and I are joined by Bubbawheat of Flights, Tights, & Movie Nights to discuss one of the most loved and acclaimed worst (cult) movies of all time, Rocky Horror Picture Show. The three of us are split pretty evenly--one loves it, one feels 'eh', and one loathes it. But which is which? Listen to find out! And we also have a little chat about cult films in general. Boy did this episode come with some hassle. Apologies for its lateness. All of March (and the first half of April) hit all of us like a tornado, and we couldn’t even get our songs recorded until the other day. But in the process, we learned some interesting news about one person’s emotions toward this film that allowed us to wrap a pseudo-true story around this episode. So like with Beauty and the Beast, we’re breaking format a little with this episode and having a lot more fun with the story of the episode. Oh yeah, and in “honor” of 4/20 (despite the fact I’m relatively sure none of us in this episode smokes pot), we’re tackling Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical.
