Walking On Air

In episode #13, I am talking to Cristina González Castro from Spain who is a National Nordic Walking Trainer for INWA. Cristina has spent over a decade working with cancer survivors and in this episode our conversation is about the powerful physical and mental benefits that Nordic Walking confers on people undergoing cancer treatment. For further information, please do visit Cristina’s website - research4NW.com. There you will find links to her e-learning course, called Nordic Walking Fundamentals, which is in English and Spanish, as well as to her book - ‘Exercise and cancer. Myths, legends and recommendations' - which is published in spanish. Also, I can highly recommend listening to Crisitna’s podcast, by visiting your favourite podcast platform and searching for The Nordic Walking Podcast.

If you have enjoyed this podcast, I would be very grateful if you could show your support by buying me a coffee! This enables me to continue producing these podcasts, as it will go towards covering the server and podcast platform licenses. Not only is Nordic Walking a whole body workout, but it is also one of the safest and most sociable way to exercise. Classes always finish up in a cafe enjoying a coffee together. Many thanks, Mary x

Language Learning and Nordic Walking with Julie Frankland

Exercise provides many proven benefits that protect and stimulate the brain as we age. However, experts all agree that probably the best way to prevent mental decline as we get older is to learn a new language. And my guest today has ingeniously combined the two together. Julie Frankland is a Nordic Walking UK trained instructor, who runs a group called Nordic Walk ‘n’ Talk, based in Bassano del Grappa, Italy. Julie’s mother tongue is English, she conducts her classes in English, but her clients are Italians, who have signed up to learn both Nordic Walking and English at the same time.

Nordic Walking and Teenagers with Katie Atkins

In episode, I talk to Katie Atkins who set up Nordic 4, based in Bristol, in 2017. Katie is a British Nordic Walking qualified instructor with a background of teaching in the Primary Sector. Whilst Katie has clients of all ages, today we discuss teaching teenagers how to Nordic Walk. The teenage years can be challenging in so many ways and the last 18 months have compounded many of those challenges and have been particularly hard on this age group, who have had exams cancelled and been prevented from connecting with their peers at an age when they are programmed to seek independence and new friendships. Katie’s Nordic 4 Teens group provides an inclusive setting for teens to feel successful, be themselves, find themselves and help them all to succeed in areas. To find out more about Katie's classes for teenagers, please follow this link: https://nordic4.com/activity/nordic4teens/If you have enjoyed this podcast, I would be very grateful if you could show your support by buying me a coffee!
