~Walking In The Light~

~Walking In The Light~

Elder Randall Ogans Sr. & Elder DeBorrah K. Ogans

In this podcast, Elders Randall & DeBorrah K. Ogans share biblically based insight, guidance, and advice on Life & Living, Marriage & Relationships, Family & Parenting, Faith & Belief, Church & Religion, Spiritual Health, and more.
Weekly episodes encourage listeners to live life out loud, walking/living in the light, doing what the Lord requires of us in every area of life. What does the Lord require of us? To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.
Jesus said "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life".

To walk in the light is to have a daily commitment to living out a righteous life. Blessed(happy) are those who walk in the light of His presence. His word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. For it is in Him that we live, and move, and have our being.
This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son, cleanseth us from all sin.
Always keep in mind, the transforming power of the Lord, is truth. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and everything else will be added unto you.
If you haven't already, make a commitment today, to start Walking In the Light.
Subscribe to the Podcast and let us aid you in your walk with the Lord.

Remember that depression is a season, and even the most difficult times are temporary. By cultivating a relationship with God, you can overcome depression and find lasting peace.

~Walking In The Light~ - Spiritual Eating Disorders - You Are What You Eat
play

10/02/24 • 36 min

Growing up we were always encouraged to have a balanced diet, to eat healthy foods, and particularly our vegetables. So that we could grow big and strong.
Remember the television commercials to eat "Wonder Bread", which helped to build strong bodies in 12 different ways?
We were also told to eat three meals a day, Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, with Breakfast being the most important meal of the day. We were advised to stay away from junk food, for it wasn’t healthy.

Some would eat too much, some would eat too little. Some would eat foods not good for the body. Some would feast on junk food.
It was important how we related to food, so we wouldn’t develop an eating disorder, which is an imbalance in one’s intake of food.

Anorexia and Bulimia are very serious eating disorders that occur when one does not properly relate to food. Eating disorders are serious. They can and do result in physical and emotional turmoil.
In this episode, we address “Spiritual Eating Disorders”. An unbalanced spiritual diet will result in a spiritual eating disorder.
A spiritual eating disorder arises when one doesn't properly relate to God's word. Just as our physical bodies need nutritious food, our spirits require the nourishment of scripture. Failing to engage with the Bible can be compared to physical starvation and leads to spiritual weakness and stunted growth.

Neglecting spiritual nourishment hinders your relationship with God and prevents spiritual growth. Without a consistent diet of God's word, you limit your understanding of His will and miss out on the guidance and strength He provides.

Just as our physical bodies require food for energy and growth, our souls thrive on the "Bread of Heaven".

~Walking In The Light~ - The Faithful Good Shepherd - Psalm 23
play

04/23/25 • 38 min

The 23rd Psalm is considered extraordinarily beautiful and important because it profoundly illustrates the intimate and loving relationship between the Lord and His people, using the metaphor of a shepherd caring for his sheep. It reveals God's constant provision, protection, guidance, and enduring presence throughout all of life's circumstances, offering comfort and hope.

Like a shepherd who knows, protects, guides, and provides for his flock, God offers us security, provision for our needs (both material and spiritual), direction on the right paths, comfort in difficult times (even "the valley of the shadow of death"), and a sense of constant companionship and support.

Despite the complexities and difficulties of the 21st century, including economic instability, global unrest, and moral challenges, the image of the Good Shepherd provides unwavering reassurance. It reminds us that even amidst chaos and uncertainty, God remains a constant, loving, and powerful guide who will lead and protect those who trust in Him, offering peace and direction through His Word and Spirit.

So, let's dive in and talk about our Faithful Good Shepherd.

~Walking In The Light~ - Colossians - Christ Centered Gospel
play

10/09/24 • 29 min

In this episode, we look at the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church at Colossae, which is the Book of Colossians. We highlight and emphasize the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ. Recognizing that He is the Head of the Church, the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, and the fullness of God in bodily form.

The Bible states: “In the Beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. And the word became flesh, and dwelt among us. That word is Jesus Christ, for by him all things were made.
Our finite minds cannot comprehend “the Beginning”, but know that He was there.

The Apostle Paul wrote this letter to the church to combat false doctrines and teachings, that were spreading. We have that same battle today, which is why we must contend for the faith. To do that, there is a need for discernment in the face of false teachings. We emphasize the importance of understanding God's sovereign power.

The Holy Spirit is our Comforter and source of truth. He empowers us to live righteously, access God's power, and understand the Word of God. We encourage you to rely on His guidance and indwelling presence.

As we examine the book of Colossians, two things we want to help you better understand are:

1. What does it mean to be "complete in Him" as stated in Colossians?

2. The concept of "perfection"? What does it mean to be “perfect”.

Many people, when they make a mistake, or display a character flaw, are quick to say “Well, I’m not perfect”. To them, we say “welcome to the Nobody’s Perfect Club”, where you can have a crutch and unlimited excuses for not doing or being as you should. You really don’t want to be a member of this club.

God wouldn’t tell us to “Be Ye Perfect”, if it wasn’t possible. He’s not telling you to be “flawless”, you can’t, but you can be “perfect”, which means something entirely different from what many people think.

Listen carefully as we take this deep dive into the book of Colossians.

~Walking In The Light~ - Thanksgiving Means So Much More Than Turkey & Dressing
play

11/20/24 • 23 min

A common perception of Thanksgiving is that it is solely a celebration of food and family. However, it has a much deeper historical and spiritual significance.

Thanksgiving is about much more than turkey and dressing. Although it originated here in America as a result of a peace treaty established between the Puritans and the Indigenous Americans, on a deeper level, it is a time to reflect on God's blessings, and express gratitude for His provisions, and His sacrifice in sending His son Jesus Christ.

The story of Christopher Columbus is often presented as the discovery of America. However, this podcast episode encourages us to seek the truth beyond the commonly taught narrative.

The land was already inhabited by the Indigenous Americans, making Columbus's arrival not a discovery, but an encounter with a pre-existing civilization that was already thriving and living comfortably in the land.

God provided the land, the resources, and the opportunity for the settlers to establish themselves. The Indigenous Americans showed them kindness and taught them how to live in the land.

The peace treaty, although temporary, can be seen as a testament to God's desire for harmony and unity. However, as we’ve seen even in this day and time, some people are quick to forget who helped them on their journey. There are some people who always want to take from others, to take advantage of, or have dominion over others. Greed kicks in and they attempt to take what’s not theirs.

We encourage you to listen to this episode and embrace the spirit of Thanksgiving, not just on one day, but in every aspect of our lives, by living in gratitude, seeking truth, and sharing God's love with others.

~Walking In The Light~ - Worshipping God - Living A Life of Worship
play

12/04/24 • 32 min

In this episode we discuss Worshipping God - "Living a Life of Worship", emphasizing that worship should be integrated into every aspect of daily life.
We stress authenticity over outward displays.
Worship is not confined to Sunday mornings or specific rituals; true worship is a way of life that pervades every aspect of our daily existence. We demonstrate our love and appreciation for God through consistent actions and a heart-centered connection.
While personal worship is essential, coming together with other believers for corporate worship offers unique spiritual opportunities. This shared experience allows for a deeper connection with the Holy Spirit, encourages repentance, and fosters a sense of unity and support.
True worship prioritizes a genuine heart connection with God, above outward displays or attempts to impress others. It calls for sincerity and a rejection of superficiality, encouraging believers to focus on cultivating a deep and personal relationship with the Divine. It also recognizes that it is God whom we worship, and Him only. He is the only one that can have and deserves the preeminence,

God desires us to engage with Him authentically, allowing our unique personalities and experiences to shape our individual expressions of devotion.
He calls us to a daily walk in Truth, extending our worship beyond designated places of worship. This requires integrating our faith into every aspect of our lives, allowing our actions and interactions to reflect our devotion to God.
We encourage you to embrace a lifestyle of worship, seeking God's guidance and striving to live in accordance with His will, allowing His joy to be your strength. The ultimate goal of worship is to glorify God, grow to become more like Him, and experience the abundant life He has promised.

~Walking In The Light~ - Marriage on the rocks or "The ROCK" ?
play

01/29/25 • 30 min

God has instilled in all of us a desire for relationship.
The week of Febraury 7 – Febraury 14 is celebrated as National Marriage Week, and is also the week of Valentines Day, when couples celebrate their love for one another.

Beginning with today’s episode, we will spend the entire month of Febraury focusing on “Marriage”.

In this episode, we ask the question, is your marriage on the rocks, or on “The Rock”?

Is your marriage on the rocks? Have you done all that you think that you could do, and you still are not happy? Do you live under the same roof and barely speak or your communication is just not happening?

Is your physical relationship few, far and in between or basically just nonexistent? Or on the other hand is your physical relationship all that you have going on? But you both are just going through the motions? Do you jump at the opportunity to spend time apart, or enjoy the company of everyone else except one another?
When you get angry do you often resort to disrespectful name calling, foul language and go as far as physical blows? Are you so tired of fussing and fighting, and now you just want to go your separate ways?
Do either or both of you just drink yourself under the table because you just can't take life without being under the influence of some substance, in order to function?
If your answer is "yes" to two or more of these questions, your marriage is on the rocks!
If you're not married, are you engaged or on the brink of saying 'I Do'? If so, have you asked yourself:

  • Are We Ready For Marriage ?
  • How Compatible are We?
  • Are we Ready for Intimacy, Commitment and The Marriage Bed?
  • What About the In-laws? Will they truly be In-laws, or Out-laws"?

~Walking In The Light~ - Malachi - Will A Man Rob God?

Malachi - Will A Man Rob God?

~Walking In The Light~

play

01/22/25 • 30 min

Today we're focusing on the book of Malachi, its core message and contemporary relevance. Malachi's prophecy, delivered during a time of spiritual decline in Israel, condemns the people and priests for their hypocrisy, unacceptable sacrifices, and disregard for God's law.
We emphasize Malachi's warnings of impending judgment and the necessity of repentance, and the concept of "robbing God". Not merely through financial neglect, but also through a lack of genuine worship and obedience.
God was greatly displeased with the religious practices of the priests and people of Israel which had devolved into meaningless rituals and traditions, lacking genuine worship. Specific issues included spiritual abuses, disrespect, offering blemished and unacceptable sacrifices, polluted bread, and widespread disobedience to God's laws.
In many church services, generally right before the offering, we often hear the scripture in Malachi referenced "Will A Man Rob God?" Many times it is used to coherce or pressure congregants to tithe, or give 10% of their income. But that was not the intent of Malachi.
What does it mean to "rob God" according to the Book of Malachi?
The phrase "Will a man rob God?" goes beyond just tithing. It primarily refers to depriving God of the glory, honor, praise, and preeminence that He deserves daily.
While the misdirection of tithes was an issue, the heart of the matter was failing to acknowledge God’s authority and treating Him with contempt and disrespect. We still see that today. Disrespect for God, the people of God, and places of worship. Some think it's Ok to just give God the leftovers. It's not. He gave us His best, and we should in turn give Him our best.

Malachi called for a return to true faith.
The issues of spiritual complacency, moral decay, and disrespect for God that Malachi addressed are not unique to his time. We can draw parallels to modern-day societal issues, including societal unrest, moral decay, a decline in adherence to God's word, and also a lack of spiritual awareness of God's will.
Malachi's central message, and our message in this episode, is a call to repentance.
