Voiceover Talks - Episode 10 | Becoming the Character: Using Immersion Techniques in Voice Acting

Episode 10 | Becoming the Character: Using Immersion Techniques in Voice Acting

Voiceover Talks

In many ways, the work of a voice actor is often more challenging than that of a stage or screen actor. We are required to do so much, with so very little. Where an on-screen actor can use body language, facial expressions and movement in addition to their voice to ‘sell’ a character, we must do the same, using only our voice.
We often record our scenes independently, and so have no one to ‘react’ to or play off. We’re not dressed in costume, surrounded by other characters or immersive sets... we are, for the most part, alone in our booths...
This week I talk about some of my favourite techniques for turning the tables, and truly immersing yourself in the role for character-based performance.

Episode 9 | Less Scrolling, More Growth.

Welcome back to the Voiceover Talks podcast! If you find yourself bogged down trying to come up with new content for your social media channels, or worrying that you haven't posted anything in a few days, or worse still, getting bummed out when the content you do share doesn't seem to hit, then this week's episode is for you!
This week, I share my thoughts on managing a social media presence while trying to run a voiceover business, and how cutting down on social media use might just be the best decision for your business and career. I talk about how taking a break from social media helped me refocus my priorities, re-evaluate my relationship with the online world, and how it led to my best performing month in the last 5 years and offer some tips on how you can do the same.

Episode 11 | The Audacity To Denounce Audacity...

Contrary to popular belief, the free, open-source software, Audacity, is NOT a Digital Audio Workstation. This week I talk about the differences between an Audio Editor with its destructive editing format and a true Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) with non-destructive, real-time, precision editing, and why you should make the switch.
