The Secrets of Neuroaromatics and good feelings with Saskia Schanz
Vetiver Vibes with Essentria
01/09/24 • 47 min
In this episode, Nikki interviews Saskia Schanz about Neuroaromatics.
Saskia Schanz is a teacher by training where she developed a learning concept for students, who she discovered, learnt best when they focussed on going inwards to find and express their authentic selves.
Then came Saskia’s 3 children where she took a break and began painting abstract oil paintings that were used for interior design purposes on an energetic/Feng Shui level.
In 2009, she decided to move to Canada where she started writing. It was then that she discovered essential oils and it was love at first sight.
During that time Saskia also began to train as a psycho-therapeutic aroma practitioner in Germany which is when all of the pieces began falling into place.
Saskia also loves spending time with her family, the ocean, dancing salsa and anything and everything colourful.
Saskia shares:
- Her top essential oils
- What is neuro aromatics
- Neuroplasticity
- Essential oils can work as neurotransmitters to build new pathways in the brain
- Interaction of essential oils with our nervous system
- How to link essential oils to good feelings, anchoring scents and memories
- Bergamot essential oil - oil of optimism, activate parasympathetic activity and reduce sympathetic activity
- Grapefruit essential oil - eating disorders, body shaming, disordered eating, anxiety with food, works on the endocannabinoid system
- Frankincense - supports the autonomic nervous system to help reduce stress
- Manuka - helps with over stimulation, autonomic nervous system, highly sensitive people, EMF waves
- Subtle aromatherapy such as moon and zodiac
- How aromatherapy can support the body to help itself come back into homeostasis
- GABA - helps to have a more restful sleep
- Neuroaromatic blends that she has formulated and can be found on her website
- When not to use essential oils to anchor - remember to stay within your ethical limits, unless trained in counselling not to offer counselling advice.

The Learning Code: Strategies for Mastering New Concepts
Vetiver Vibes with Essentria
12/12/23 • 25 min
In this episode, Rachael and Nikki chat about the importance of thinking outside the box and looking at the big picture. This is important for everyday life situations and also for students studying a course. Being able to use critical thinking is an important tool to have.
We discussed:
- The importance of thinking outside the box
- When you’re learning about a new concentp, look at what you did understand, read it again, look up words you don’t understand to get a better understanding.
- If you still need clarification, consider if this is going to be talked about later in the course (check the next lesson title or course syllabus), is there a reputable place to search for more information?
- Once you’ve done critical thinking on the matter, then reach out for further clarification.
- The importance of health history forms for clients as they can give a glimpse into someone’s overall health
- When looking at health conditions - by looking at what essential oils are important to avoid it can also help narrow down your selection of oils to use, all the while making sure you don’t pick an oil that in contraindication to persons health.
- If you don’t know enough about a health condition, look it up and see what body systems it affects, ask the client about it as they are most likely to know about it, and how it affects their health and wellness.
- When blending, look at the big picture - what will help someone the most
- What application should be used?
- What oils to chose - taking into consideration age, application location, chronic vs acute, and more
- What carrier oil can support the blend
- Don’t overwhelm a client. Often 1-2 blends is more than enough to start
- Don’t overwhelm the body with too much essential oil either
- Remember to take the person’s personal aroma preference in mind too when possible
- And more!

One Bite at a Time: Our Personal Livy Method Experience
Vetiver Vibes with Essentria
09/12/23 • 34 min
In this episode, Nikki and Rachael share their own personal experiences of going through a healthy eating program on their journey to finally and forever health.
We both completed the Spring session of Gina Livy’s Livy Method program. It’s a 91-day program that we both love for many reasons and wanted to share how we were able to transform our lives with it.
It is a weight loss program, but Nikki sees it more as a healthy eating program to focus on wellness, with the added benefit of losing weight.
Neither Nikki nor Rachael are affiliated with the program, we do not receive any compensation from the program.
Some of the things we loved about the program include
- We have never eaten so much food in our lives!
- No counting, weighing, measuring, or doing weird shit
- Community support
- App to track, which is lifelong access
- Science posts that go deep into topics
- Becoming in tune with your body’s needs
- More energy, less brain fog, better awareness of self
- How to eat to satisfaction
- How to kickstart the metabolism
- Importance of sleep and reducing stress when it comes to weight loss
In one program session, Rachael lost 23 lbs and in two sessions of the program, Nikki lost 30 lbs. Both feel better which has had a positive impact on not only their physical health but also mental health and relationships with many around them.
Putting ourselves first, and getting back to feeling good in our skin, we wanted to share that you can make yourself a priority too!
Aromatherapy was not used to help curb any cravings but can be used to help with a better night's sleep, reduce stress, and bring our nervous system back into balance.
