Body Neutrality...say that three times fast!

We are always learning right along with you and this was a new concept for us. In a world of "Body Confidence," "Body Positivity," and "Love Yourself Now," the idea of "Body Neutrality" is different. And it is a game changer. It means to think more about what your body does than what it looks like. To accept it, as just a body. Period. In this series, we talk to experts, share the thoughts of our listeners, and of course, our own experiences. We hope you enjoy and can find some new information, freedom, inspiration, community, and some laughter.

We talk with Liz Fever for the first two episodes in this series. She taught us so much, ranging from Body Liberation to practical ways to enjoy our closets.

Liz Fever is a Philadelphia-based personal stylist, specializing in bringing confidence to your closet and helping you step into your most authentic self! As an artist, body liberation advocate and lover of all things fashion, Liz stepped into her role as the Self Love Stylist in 2020 and has never looked back! Using her own story of body acceptance and discovering her authentic self, she offers services that take your wardrobe and confidence to a whole new level. With her clients, Liz breaks the style rules, digs into the importance of power + purpose, and helps to create a closet that you'll absolutely adore!

Unqualified Therapists Inc. - E 115: Unbelievable: When No One Believes You
play

02/02/23 • 38 min

Why won’t those in “authority” believe us when we tell them something awful happened or is about to happen? Why don't they take action?

Episode 115 discusses examples of not being believed or taken seriously in our own lives, current events in the news with teacher, Abby Zwerner, and a story from our very favorite reporter, Josh Mankiewicz from Dateline. It is a daily occurrence and we really need to find a way to make it stop.

Until then, we will “Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes” (Maggie Kuhn).

4:33 Abby Zwerner Conversation

10:33 Sarah’s story on dealing with “bullying” (abuse) at her son’s school

15:15 Josh Mankiewicz’s story on Dateline: Wreckage

25:40 Why do people not believe people and refuse to act? The Gray Rhino

30:05 Closing remarks–trying to make sense.

*Part 2 of 2

Warriors you're in for a treat. Casey is wise beyond her years and is bringing us hope in breaking the cycle of negative self talk. She shares with us over two episodes some of these nuggets on taking steps, no matter how small, in changing our thoughts around our bodies and bringing us to a more neutral space. We discuss what we can gain instead of what we can lose, using the term features rather than flaws, and why spending time naked can help us gain confidence.

Casey is a body image and self love advocate and and 20 something Dallasite. She has formed an online community on her blog as well as Instagram where women come together to navigate adulthood together. It’s a safe space online to ask questions, to share stories, to be inspired and to never feel alone in what you’re going through in life.

Not all pyramids were built by the Ancient Egyptians. Some were built by Mega Huns who bombard inboxes far and wide with their out of the blue "Hey Hun! I haven't talked to you since high school, but I have this amazing business opportunity and thought of you!" messages.

There is so much to unpack in the MLM world. Roberta is leading the charge in the anti-MLM movement with her podcast and social media presence. With these resources she is working to, "end the stigma of "failure" in an industry systemically designed for you to fail."

Unqualified Therapists Inc. - E146: Stories Heal: A Conversation with Eric Hodos
play

01/26/24 • 63 min

Our goal with this podcast has always been to stop the stigma surrounding mental health, to normalize the conversation and to share stories so people feel less alone. Often men’s mental health is stigmatized even more than women, but the truth is we all struggle and all need help. When we recorded this episode it was in November, which was Movemeber: Men’s Mental Health month. We love that there is a specific month to put the spotlight on men’s mental health, but it is a topic that we should be talking about all year long.

Eric shares his journey from childhood to present day. This is a story of resilience, broken cycles of abuse, vulnerability, asking for help, and rising above adversity. The tools he uses are ones that many resist because of their background, upbringing, or beliefs, but Eric shares with us how therapy and medication truly changed his life.

Taking care of our mental health day to day, when tragedy strikes, when we are broken down, when we are in crisis, or all of the above is hard to do. We hope that Eric’s story can bring you hope, encouragement, and feel less alone.

Also...be sure to check out Eric and his band, The Altered Egos incredible music (which you hear in this episode) and their Instagram.

Xo,

Amy & Sarah

Unqualified Therapists Inc. - E 114 Intrusive Thoughts: The Rager in Our Minds
play

01/26/23 • 52 min

Intrusive thoughts, we all have them, they are weird and can be embarrassing, but guess what? It’s okay to talk about them. Talking about them, getting them out of heads, and knowing we aren’t the only ones having them helps.

I (Amy) share a lot in this episode. I give you the VIP tour of my brain that no one knows about. After we finished recording and the days following, I kept telling Sarah how embarrassed I felt because this is vulnerable shit that I tell no one. I wanted to erase it all, take the words back and get a do over where I just share the facts. But I didn't, instead I share with all of you because I believe with all my heart that there is someone out there wondering if they are the only one who thinks these thoughts. You are NOT the only one. I promise. In the episode, I describe the inside of my head as, “Its like this f*ing party that you didn’t invite anybody to but they all showed up. You invite one friend over when your parents are out of town and the whole school shows up and you're like Nope. You are just doing life and there is a rager in your head.” It was a silly sentence that slipped out, but truly, it can sum up what some of my days feel like.

Thankfully, after our discussion of the various types of intrusive thoughts, Sarah shares with us a list of ways we can quiet and calm the thoughts in our brains. We don’t have to be paralyzed by these intrusive thoughts. Anxiety doesn’t need to stop us from living beautiful lives. We hope our stories, tips, and our encouragement to reach out for professional help when needed helps you on your journey to quiet your mind and live in peace, or as I put it, “turn that rager into a yoga class in your mind.”

We love you Warriors!
