Why did you start this show?
UCP 1.0 ran from 2020 to 2023, and was a retrospective looking back at every single episode of the UK TV Show Games Master, some of it's peers and pretenders, as well as the 2020's reboot. When we reached the end of our original mission brief we retooled, brought in new blood and expanded our remit to Video Game based Television from around the WORLD! All of these answers are being written by Ash Versus, by the way.
What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?
Knowledge and understanding how games and gaming is presented from around the world and throughout the past 40+ years. From Japanese shows such as GameCenter CX, to Australia and Game On, to the totally bodacious early 90s content from the USA and beyond. Every episode will contain a blow by blow analysis, information on the games played, the shows history and more. Wherever possible we will also provide a watch link so you can check out the subject matter at your own pace.
Which episode should someone start with?
Start with Series 2 Episode 1! This feed is relatively fresh as of time of writing and kicks off with a trip to the other side of the world and a show that has been running for 20+ years!
Which have been your favourite episodes so far?
From my perspective (Ash) it'd have to be the John Robertson Interview.
Which episode are you most proud of?
The first episode of the reboot (GameCenter CX), because it was such a departure from previous subjects and required a very different approach to the research
What is your vision for your show?
To build on our existing audience, make new friends and raise awareness of shows from around the world, especially shows that are not native English language.
What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?
Probably CheapShow, tied with We Hate Movies.
How did you come up with the name for your podcast?
In GamesMaster you had 'The Consoletation Zone' for information, hints and cheats, so 'Under Consoletation' made a good play on words. It's become our brand so stays with us beyond the original mission brief!
Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Ash, I have been an internet broadcaster since 2005, and specifically a podcaster since 2010. Under Consoletation has been the longest running podcast I've been involved in and also the most consistent, releasing episodes weekly between 2020 and 2023, and fortnightly from 2024 onwards. I am also a Twitch streamer, looking to see if there's room in that space for someone north of 40 who is an average gamer with more bad jokes and puns than is entirely healthy.
