In the second episode of our 3-part series, we discuss the lower torso that washes up in France. This torso shows hesitation cuts, leading police to believe this is the Butcher's first victim. After the initial victims were found in March 1997, police find a skull next to a river named "The Fear..." Belgian police determine the Butcher of Mons is still out there, claiming more victims.
In this episode we discuss the links each victim had to one another and let you in on why we think it is possible the Butcher of Mons is an American.

The Butcher of Mons - Part 1: The Dark Trail
Two Sleuths
07/24/23 • 62 min
While the world is still trying to solve the case of Jack the Ripper, there is a similar modern-day case that is in desperate need of attention.
We are in a race against the clock to catch the Butcher of Mons with less than four years left to hold him accountable for his heinous crimes. The serial killer's reign took place in a small Belgian town in the mid-1990s. In the aftermath, his 5 victims were found dismembered and in trash bags littered throughout the city.
But is it possible the killer could be an America?
Listen to find out more about the evidence we found, which could point to just that.

The third and final episode on the Butcher of Mons case takes us to America, where we find several dismembered victims in Long Island that match the Butcher of Mons' Modus Operandi. The recent arrest of the suspected Long Island Serial Killer (LISK) only makes this episode more compelling.
Rex Heuermann was indicted for three of the 10 victims found in and around Gilgo Beach, and is being investigated for a fourth victim. But we suspect there is more than one killer at play.
Could the still unidentified second culprit also be the Butcher of Mons?
We'll explore this in-depth during our third and final episode of this series. We'll also tell you how two different Long Island locations for the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) could connect to the SHAPE NATO base located near Mons, Belgium.
In episode three, we'll also head back to Europe and explore additional victims that local residents speculate might also be tied to the Butcher's case.
Finally, we will introduce you to several suspects that the Corpus Cell investigators believe could be the true Butcher of Mons.
Help us solve this case before time runs out! We only have until 2027 to hold the Butcher of Mons accountable.

Two Sleuths

He believed he was not only a Vampire King, but also Jesus Christ. Marcus Wesson preached his bizarre beliefs to his massive family, and his children grew up not knowing anything about the outside world, or how unorthodox their lives were. His reign of brainwashing, manipulation and terror... ended in 2004 with the deadliest mass murder in the history of one northern California city.
Trigger Warning: This episode deals with incest, and the sexual abuse and murder of minors. However, we believe is an important lesson in what can happen when children are not protected, and an intelligent master-manipulator is left to his own devices. Listener discretion is advised.

The Disappearance of Brandon Helms - Part 1
Two Sleuths
05/21/24 • 35 min
“If you commit suicide, you can't bury yourself.” That is what a family member of Brandon Lee Helms said to Katie when she was investigating the disappearance of the then 42-year-old South Georgia father for her TV series 'Unsolved Georgia.'
Brandon vanished from the home he was living in shortly before Christmas of 2015. Some believe it was suicide. Others allege foul play.
Join us as we hear from Brandon's family and from investigators working the case, and learn about some of the odd twists and turns that took place in the months and years following his disappearance.
Brandon Lee Helms was last seen at a home on Teeterville Highway near Lakeland in Lanier County, Georgia, on December 14, 2015, when he was 42-years-old. He stands 5′11′' and weighed roughly 145 pounds at the time of his disappearance. His family says he had dentures and may be recognized by his thin, receding hairline and slight hitch in his gait due to a knee problem.
Anyone with information should call the Lanier County Sheriff’s Office at (229) 482-3545. If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal ideation or a personal crisis, dial 988 for free support and someone to talk to.
Be sure to stick with the 'Two Sleuths Podcast' for 'Part 2: The Disappearance of Brandon Helms' when it is released next week.

The Soquel Massacre
Two Sleuths
04/16/24 • 49 min
One quiet evening in October 1970, the Live Oak Fire Department in northern California responded to fire at a hilltop mansion. When they got to the back of the house, the chief saw what appeared to be a mannequin floating in the pool. But it wasn't a mannequin. It was a woman who had been gagged and bound. Four more people would be pulled from the pool that night.
The opulent home belonged to Soquel Ophthalmologist Dr. Victor Ohta and his wife Virginia, along with their four kids, Taura, Lark, Derrick and Taggart.
A note was found at the scene that read like a manifesto. The Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office was terrified that this massacre might have been the work of a cult... just like the Manson Family Murders in Southern California roughly a year before.
Join us for today's episode as we follow the investigation behind the Soquel Massacre of 1970.

If you’ve been along for the ride with us, you know by now that the Southern portion of Ontario, Canada, once claimed the undesirable title of 'Serial Killer Capital of the World.' That’s because between 1959 and 1983 there were reportedly more active serial killers per capita than compared to anywhere else on earth.
Over the past eight weeks, we have covered three convicted serial killers in that region and no less than 17 heartbreaking murders of young women and young men across Ontario, Canada, throughout the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s.
It’s been one heck of a rollercoaster ride and today is the final chapter of our Canadian Killers series. We will dive into the final group of victims- those that might be isolated incidents or so-called ‘one-off’ murders. But we urge you to pay attention because some small threads weave between this case and the previous modus operandi we've seen in other murders throughout this series.
This is the eighth and final episode in our Canadian Killers series, which is now exploring a rash of unsolved homicides that occurred during the period when multiple serial killers were active. Perhaps, through your sleuthing, you can help to solve some of these crimes and bring resolution to the victims' families.
If you have any information on the unsolved cases covered in this episode, the tip line for The Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers is 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
