Dr. Rob Sands is the co-founder of the Pamlico Rose Institute in Washington, NC which advances wellness programs for female Veterans. Pamlico focuses on connecting mind, body, spirit, and community through meaningful/persistent attention to nutrition, exercise, health, and spirituality and build resilience to help in reintegration.

Reintegration is more challenging for female Veterans due to: · conflicting roles and identity of mother, partner, and Veteran; · single parenting; · absence of support network and/or not self-identifying, · access to the VA difficult due to many factors. Building a strong foundation of wellness and resilience can help female Veterans overcome the effects of trauma and an uncertain future. Pamlico Rose promotes a holistic approach to wellness, Total Life Fitness (TLF), that builds a strong foundation of living fit and helping one move through the reintegration experience. Building resilience to adversity, TLF encourages an individual through mind, body, spirit and healthy relationships to focus on one’s whole self. TLF programs include residential living, the arts, nutrition, gardening, connecting with nature, yoga, and other activities and will be offered at their Rose Haven Center of Healing in Washington, NC. Rose Haven includes a soon to be completed (Summer of 2020) rehabilitated 1892 farmhouse as a reintegration home, its adjacent historic barn as a multipurpose support facility, and a healing landscape that includes meditation and produce gardens. The Center covers 1⁄2 neighborhood block in Washington, NC’s historic district.

play

05/15/21 • 86 min

Mike Stojic is the Co-owner of "Revival 1869: A Drinkery" located in downtown Clayton, NC. Mike's dream was to create something special and not be stuck in a 9-5 working a meaningless job. Thus he created Revival 1869. Rather than "just another bar," Revival has to be experienced. Then came March 2020 and everything changed. Hear Mike's story about how instead of becoming a statistic (70% restaurant closures) he and his partner Maleah adapted and overcame. Great story! THanks Mike!!!

We discussed the art of entrepreneurship and surviving the past year in one of the hardest hit industries. Mikes talks about his ways of staying mentally healthy during adversity. Mike is has been a guest many times on my old podcast and it is always fun to have him in studio! I figured we'd go down some rabbit holes and we certainly did!

We also have Bill Butler, co-coordinator of the Knoxville Silkies Hike, hopping on to discuss the 5/22 hike in Knoxville, TN.

21 Gun Live - Latest Military/Veteran Topics - Military Inspired Viral Video Week in Review. Special guest Josh Graham from DD214 Fight Wear!

From dd214bjj.com: Far too many of our Veterans are drowning in grief and guilt. Civilian life can be trying for our warriors. While there are several programs to help them, the stigma with addressing mental health limits our Vets from getting the treatment they need. DD214 was started by two Marines who couldn't stand by and watch our brothers and sisters suffer without a fight. We were lucky enough to find an outlet with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to help us adjust. Please help us get BACK IN THE FIGHT against PTSD! We are dedicated to raising awarenesson this matter and support organizations that are finding natural and healthy ways to help our warriors! Thank you for all your help.

Semper Fi,

Milt and Josh

Twenty One Gun Podcast - #18 Interviews from the Raleigh Silkies Hike 9.21.2019
play

09/29/19 • 30 min

Saturday 9/21/19 was the Raleigh Silkies hike and my first full hike. I embedded myself in the gaggle of pale thighs and half naked veterans for a first hand account of what an Irreverent Warriors Silkies Hike is all about. This episode features interviews with our beloved leader Cindy "Mama Bear" McNally, hike coordinators Russ Oxley and Jeremy Walton and from a bunch of hikers who were kind enough to share their stories. If I you were interviewed and not featured in this episode, I apologize but I had to cut 3 hours of audio down to 30 minutes! I also didn't get everyone's name, so if you hear your interview, drop me a line at [email protected] and let me know who you were!!! I bleeped out the names of those who requested it.

I hope I did a good job highlighting the Silkies Hike experience and I am grateful for the veterans that shared their stories with us.

If you want to be featured on an up coming episode, please email me, DM me, text me or basically get in touch with me by any means available.

I have a bunch of great episodes coming up including Col. Allen West, Marine Rudy Reyes, and Strike Force MMA Champion Chad Robichaux! Thanks for listening!

Cheers,

Sully
