The Institute of Medicine believes 20-25% of every $1 spent on healthcare is wasted. I see this often with specialty drugs. My team just met with a company of 300 employees last week and they didn’t realize they were essentially giving away $500,000/yr to their insurance company and big pharma. YIKES!
Read the contracts!! Or hire someone who will!!

Great question from a listener. If we don’t pay attention, then we run the risk of wasting so much money in the US healthcare system!!

Have you ever seen waste in the US healthcare system? Me too. Thats why I love BowTie. They are negotiating cash prices on behalf of employees when they need care AND THEN rewarding them with little to no out of pocket expenses.
This is a great way to cut fat out of the healthcare system without overburdening an HR team!!

Generally, I like to bring a problem in a solution to the table. To help people understand how to eliminate waste in the healthcare system. Today, I just needed to be completely authentic and share how frustrating and challenging it is for midmarket employers in our current healthcare system.

Walgreens plans to close 1,200 stores over the next 3 years. Meanwhile, CVS Pharmacy is laying off an additional 2,900 employees after having already closed 600 stores since 2022. What is happening?
For too long, these pharmacy chains thrived off the hidden games that happen behind the scenes. For example, taking advantage of spread pricing and rebate games.
Employers who are still partnered with CVS Caremark, OptumRX, and Express Scripts deserve answers. Including, why has my broker not helped me understand the benefit of a transparent PBM?
Maybe because brokers are getting big overrides? 🤔
My mission is to bring transparency to our broken healthcare system!

Then, we transition into educating you on unique things employers are doing to go above and beyond for their people. If something sounds cool, then let's talk about how we can get that implemented in your company!
Another line that stuck with me from today's conversation? "Keep yourself curious."
I've learned that leaders often don't understand they could provide so much more for their people if they simply had more healthcare strategy. It's really fun to help guide leadership teams to a better path forward. A path that frees up more money to elevate the investment they are making in their greatest asset, YOU!

Direct Primary Care offers quality healthcare that's accessible, personalized, and often more affordable than traditional medical practices. Justin Futrell shares insights on this alternative healthcare model and answers common questions from listeners about how it works and why it's gaining popularity.
• DPC physicians prioritize patient care over paperwork, creating flexible solutions like Justin's experience getting a throat swab between appointments
• Most DPC providers have networks of specialists who also offer reasonable cash prices for patients
• Cash pay prices can be significantly lower than insurance rates – Justin's example showed a $2,200 MRI through insurance versus $450 cash pay
• DPC providers can prescribe medications in most states, with some even providing limited pharmacy services included in membership fees
• Employers should consider embedding DPC into their health plans to improve employee benefits and potentially reduce healthcare costs
Your company should definitely be thinking about embedding direct primary care into your employer-sponsored health plan. If you liked the episode, please subscribe and give a five-star review.

Why do kids see the 🌎 with a lens of endless possibilities? Why do we, as adults, not chase our dreams?
I’m thrilled to share today’s episode with Mike Delmonico as he takes us on a wild ride. Mike is simply vibrant and I’m sure you will feed off his energy. That said, it hasn’t always been that way.
This episode is centered around leadership but I was pleasantly surprised that we never once used the word leadership. In fact, I was reminded that leaders must first take care of themselves. You must fill up your proverbial cup first.
Mike Delmonico Was a bartender for 12 years in the downtown Denver area. After starting a family in 2014 he felt the pressures of parenthood and wanted more flexibility with the schedule. Tune in to understand how Mike is now to the point, eight years later, where he’s leading a team of 50 people and growing. His team culture is unlike any other in the financial industry and I will say that it’s because his desire to help people answer the two very important questions that we discussed!
