Decluttering - The TIDY Way

Material things in our life require our resources, whether time, money, energy or space. Are there some areas we could declutter? Find out what the TIDY method is - a Trustworthy podcast original approach - in this episode.

Resources:

Sample prayer to begin your TIDY process:

Dear Father of the Heavenly Lights, You are the giver of every good and perfect gift, and I thank you for blessing me with these material possessions. I confess that sometimes I allow myself to be ruled by my possessions. Please forgive me. You have promised that you will establish the work of our hands so I pray that as I spend time sorting and organizing these things that You would use that time to work in my life and in my heart. Give me wisdom as I make decisions about the things that I should keep and the things that no longer serve a purpose in my life. May this process bring you glory. You are Lord over my life, Amen.

Questions you can use as you go through your decisions:

  1. Does this item or its upkeep/maintenance/use serve our family/personal mission statement.
  2. Does it make my life easier or harder?
  3. Is it sentimental?
  4. Have i used it in last ___(amount of time)
  5. Does it need to be in long term storage? (future plans or heirloom items)
  6. Is it mine to give away/get rid of?
  7. Is it still useful?
  8. Is it triggering negative memories/feelings/thoughts?
