Most times doing a big chop isn't optional from many black women. We were once conditioned to a certain standard of beauty which was straight, long hair and for many of us, that meant we had to put chemicals in our hair to achieve that look. For years, damaging our true roots to fit into this standard was normal, thank God we had an evolution. Why did you do your big chop? Was it to cut out your perm? Cut off damaged brittle hair or just a fresh start to a healthy hair journey? How did you feel after your big chop? Did you lose confidence? Did you feel "ugly"? For many of us, we had to grow into our natural beauty and that journey of accepting our true textures, un-manipulated was a challenge. Listen to me and my special guest Guilia, also known as "The Curly Flower" and Ray Calloway from the Black Girl Daily talk our natural hair journey including our big chop experience, confidence, discrimination in relationships/ the workplace, our regimens and how we came to love our natural roots.

It's a lot to process. We don't know what to expect. Most of us are scared and thinking if we'll have enough food, water, and when we will return to work. Our mental health is being affected, the news reports are becoming too much to consume at this point. Events have been postponed and some are afraid to go outside. How has this virus affected your everyday life? Are you practicing self-care in the midst of this panic and fear? Listen to me and my special guests share our thoughts and perspectives about our REAL life experience during this pandemic. What is life like for us?

That trauma, those voids you feel now stemmed from somewhere. For most of us, it came from our childhood. For some, our everyday life is impacted in ways that are painful disrupting our inner relationships or relationships with others. We can't forget about that little girl or little boy that still lives in us. He or she survived but still needs love, acceptance, and acknowledgment. In this episode, me and Natalie Greagor speak on healing and what it's like on this journey re-parenting your inner child.
