Thanks so much to Sally Gilson for today’s episode. Four months ago, ultra runner and Wild Ginger Running Patreon Sally badly broke her ankle while on a hike in the Lake District to celebrate her 50th birthday. The damage was so bad she had to be stretchered off the hill by Keswick Mountain Rescue. They had to put her foot agonisingly back in place on the hill quickly or she risked losing it altogether.


After surgery, two pins and a metal plate, Sally’s bone is gradually fusing back together but she is navigating a life without running for a good while. She was aiming for a 100 miler this summer but crewed for her buddy instead. We caught up with Sally to find out more about her accident, her subsequent recovery and how she’s coping with being a runner who can’t run for possibly a whole year.

So, injury - this can be anything - I’ve got bronchitis at the moment (apologies for all the coughing), Patreon Sally Gilson had a fall and was rescued by Mountain Rescue, Patreon Tadeuz has an irregular heartbeat problem, Patreon Hannah Bazley has a calf injury, and channel supporter Deborah has had 3 injuries in the last year so she has a lot of questions for Tim that I think we all could benefit from, so we run through them and more in this broadcast.

In 2000 a car on the wrong side of the road, overtaking on a blind summit, crashed into coach Tim's car leaving him in a coma for two weeks and life-threatening injuries that took him years of surgeries and rehab to recover from. I got timed out about 12 miles from the end reaching the Godevry checkpoint 15mins after the 8pm cut off, so I’ll be comparing notes to see what I need to do differently next time if I give it another shot in 2025 and we'll be compiling a top 10 tips between us all to help you out.
