🔒 How to Take Advantage of Opportunities and Achieve Your Goals
TP Elevates! Podcast
06/24/22 • 13 min
#opportunity #success #dreams #goals #motivation #inspiration #seizetheday #strikewhiletheironishot, #earlybirdgetstheworm #snoozeyoulose #luckiswhenpreparationmeetsopportunity
In this episode, we'll discuss the importance of taking advantage of opportunities when they arise. We'll explore the idioms "When opportunity knocks, you have to strike while the fire is hot," "The early bird gets the worm," "If you snooze you lose," and "Luck is when preparation meets opportunity." We'll also share some tips on how to be more proactive and take control of your life.
- When opportunity knocks, you have to strike while the fire is hot. This idiom means that you should take action when opportunities arise. Don't wait for the perfect moment, or someone else might take your chance away. For example, if you're offered a job that you're interested in, don't wait to start applying for other jobs. Take the opportunity and run with it!
- The early bird gets the worm. This idiom means that people who are proactive and take action early are more likely to succeed. If you wait until the last minute, you might miss out on opportunities. For example, if you're planning to start a business, don't wait until you have all the perfect plans in place. Start taking action today, and you'll be one step ahead of the competition.
- If you snooze you lose. This idiom means that if you procrastinate, you will miss out on opportunities. Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today. For example, if you have a big test coming up, don't wait until the night before to start studying. Start studying early, and you'll be more likely to do well on the test.
- Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. This idiom means that luck is not just about chance. It's also about being prepared when opportunities arise. If you're prepared, you're more likely to take advantage of opportunities when they come your way. For example, if you're applying for a job, make sure you're prepared for the interview. Do your research on the company, and practice your answers to common interview questions. By being prepared, you'll increase your chances of getting the job.
Here are some additional critical insights that were left out previously:
- Opportunities don't always come knocking. Sometimes, you have to go out and find them. This means being proactive and networking with people who can help you.
- Not all opportunities are created equal. Some opportunities are better than others. It's important to be selective about the opportunities you pursue.
- Taking advantage of opportunities takes courage. It's not always easy to step outside of your comfort zone and take risks. But if you want to achieve your goals, you need to be willing to take chances
Call to action: If you're looking for ways to be more proactive and take advantage of opportunities, then this episode is for you. Listen in to learn more about these four idioms and how they can help you to achieve your goals.

Ep.9 How to Rebound from a Traumatic Injury like a Boss!
TP Elevates! Podcast
10/29/22 • 47 min
Almost every athlete encounters the perfect storm. What’s that you ask?
First, an injury and second, the process of re-bounding from a traumatic injury. For some, the damage may be so insignificant that they never miss a practice, game or team event. Others may suffer minimal damage, and may only require a day of treatment, three-quarters speed at practice and are lucky enough to be signed off medically to play come game time.
On the other hand, there are times when players suffer injuries that take them out of play for extended periods of time; for a season, even out of play completely. The emotional roller coaster that an athlete endures can be one of the most difficult challenges they’ll ever face.
Sadly, many fail to navigate the process of effectively recovering and getting back onto the field. The Ego has a way of motivating injured athletes to do too much too soon causing them to make matters worse or re-injure themselves. Some athletes find themselves stuck and unable to accept the fact that life as they’ve known it may never be the same. These same athletes also fail to realize that their lives can in fact take a turn for the best, and flourish.
In this episode, Ty shares how he navigated an emotional tsunami after suffering multiple traumatic injuries on the football field, and the internal breakdown he experienced after learning from the doctor that he was destined to lose his right leg. Ty provides intimate details of his experience and the mental warfare he endured, and further lays out a roadmap to help injured athletes express their emotions and overcome their situation to feel motivated, inspired and able to be victorious in their endeavors.
Relax, listen and takes notes.

Ep.5 Special Episode for High School Athletes Headed to University or College to Play a Sport
TP Elevates! Podcast
07/15/22 • 37 min
Each year, across the nation, a select group of student-athletes pack up their things and journey toward the next phase of their athletic lives; college pre-season training. It's been estimated that about 1 in 57 high school athletes will have the opportunity to play at an NCAA Division 1 program. That's about 2%., Only ab out 7% will have the opportunity to play a varsity, non-intramural sport in college. Those are about 1 in 13 odds. Slightly better, this number offers a clearer picture of how few student-athletes will have the opportunity to pursue athletics after high school.
Transitioning through the levels requires adjusting to change. One of the biggest changes athletes will face jumping from high school to college is meeting the high standards set forth by the university and its sports program. Establishing new behaviors and eliminating the old. Letting go of ways of doing things to learn new ways. Adjusting to different coaches approaches, teammates, systems and operations, offenses and defenses are merely a few of the things they'll endure. Competition is intense, and in many cases, the environment is designed to push each athlete out of their comfort zone regardless of their performance level. Quite frankly, the cream will rise to the top.
It's easy for freshmen, newbies or rookies to lose their way, or lose sight of the fact that through their hard work and effort they earned an opportunity to perform alongside some of the best athletes in college sports.
In this episode, Ty addresses the many classes of high school athletes and others, who are leaving or who have left early for summer or pre-season training that begins prior to the start of the fall semester. In true form, Ty, speaking both from personal experience as a former NCAA Division 1 athlete, as a coach, and as a father with a daughter who has transitioned from Premier Club Soccer and high school varsity soccer into the ranks of NCAA Division 1 Soccer, and who, as of today is in the midst of pre-season summer training at the university.
Ty tackles the uncertainties, performance expectations, meeting such high standards, what to do when it gets rough, why having outside support is critical., adapting to all the newness, self-care, mental health, doing what take to be successful and so much more. Listen in with an athlete friend or parent of an athlete. Share this with your coach, trainer, athletic advisor or athletic director regardless of your current level.

Ep.4 Self-Defeating Mindset and Self-Destructive Behaviors | Check your BS at the Door and Point a Finger at Yourself
TP Elevates! Podcast
07/04/22 • 48 min
Everybody around you seems to be having the craziest luck. Opportunities are falling out of the sky and into their lap. At every turn, someone you know is experiencing an upgrade in life. New car, house, relationship, position at work or on the team, pay increase, bonus, recognition or award. All the while, you're frustrated because that same luck seems to keep passing you by. You need a new car, your relationships are rocky, you hate your boss and the job itself, your pay sucks, you haven't had a merit increase or bonus in as long as you can remember. Not one opportunity has come your way. Or, could there be an alternative answer for what you're experiencing?
It's very easy to point the finger away from ourselves as to blame the cause of our problems on others, when in fact the main culprit stares back at us in the mirror. That pessimist friend or relative that you love who always seems to rise and fall, and afterward, find blame for their situation's demise everywhere but within. A self-defeatist mindset is tough to overcome, but with time, it too can be concurred like most others. Take the athlete who complains about not having an opportunity to showcase her/his abilities, and then fails miserably when given the chance, or refuses to even step up. Instead, the athlete goes out of their way to sabotage the opportunity, making way for another grateful athlete to step up. The self-defeatist athlete will then return to bitterness, frustration, resentment and blame.
In this episode, Ty discusses the self-defeatist mindset and self-destructive behaviors. He shares stories and provides real examples to illustrate and define for you the perspective from which he is approaching the subject-matter. Not just for athletes, many have experienced or interacted with a person with self-destructive tendencies and a self-defeatist mindset. We know people who have sabotaged great situation's both at the onset and in the midst. Ty shares a number of experiences and examples. Listen in and see if anything you hear sounds familiar or resonates with you.

EP.10 Watch What You Say - The Power of Words
TP Elevates! Podcast
01/16/23 • 17 min
In this episode, Ty Pinkney will be exploring the power of words. Words can harm or heal, and they have the power to influence the world around us. So what are you saying? Are you using your words to build up others or tear them down? Are you using your words to spread a message of love or hate?
Ty will also be talking about the power of positive self-talk and why it's so important to use positive language when you're talking to yourself or others. He also provides a few tips and tricks for making sure your words are always kinder than usual!
You know the old saying: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."
Well, it's a lie.
What if I told you that a single word could change the course of history?
Well, it's true. It's happened countless times throughout history, from small things like a quote on Instagram that inspires someone to start their own business to huge events like when Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I Have a Dream" speech at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom (which helped to inspire the Civil Rights Act).
The power of words is something many of us take for granted. We think of them as just tools, but the truth is, words can be used for good or for evil. When you choose your words carefully, you are choosing to use the power of words in a positive way. You're choosing to help people, not hurt them. Your words have the ability to change lives. They can heal and they can harm.
We hope this episode inspires you to think about how you use your words: are they the right ones for the situation? Are they helping other people grow, learn, and improve themselves? Or are they simply making things worse? It's time we all started thinking about the power of our words more often and learning how best to use that power for good.

Ep.7 Invest in Rest
TP Elevates! Podcast
08/21/22 • 29 min
Invest in Rest
Life can be demanding.
We’re frequently pulled in different directions. Some do a really good job of taking time out to rest and recuperate while others struggle. Is rest just one more thing standing in the way of you knocking out another task? How high is rest on your priority list? The load on our lives can be heavy, and your time can be consumed daily activities. If you’re in college or high school, you have class, and if you’re a professional athlete, executive or home-raising-a-child, demand for your time is very high.
Maybe you've heard of LeBron James’s $1.5M yearly spend on recovery, Tom Brady’s recovery pajama line, and Serena Williams’ 7pm bedtime. Well, Tom Brady was right, “You can only work as hard as your ability to recover.” To build strength, you need rest. To reach any level of fitness you must build rest and recovery into your plan. Without rest, you become susceptible to injury. Rest enables you to stay mentally sharp and focused. Lack of rest leaves you feeling sluggish and lethargic.
In this episode, Ty Pinkney talks about investing in rest, and how getting enough sleep and downtime can help mitigate stress in your life and prevent overwhelming your system by taking guiltless "me" time.
Proper rest has a direct correlation to living a happier life, and getting through the day with a clear head and focus. We'll look at work life balance: what it means, why it's important, and how you can start balancing your work and personal lives today. You know your body needs rest. You know your mind needs rest. And, lack of rest takes a toll on your ability to sleep restfully. But how do you make it happen?
Rest is important for your body, mind, and soul, and part of a healthy lifestyle. Things like taking more vacations or carving out space for meditation, helps. Investing in rest could save you money; getting enough sleep can help prevent chronic diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression. In fact, sleeping fewer than six hours per night may increase your risk for all three of these conditions!
Just 15 minutes of meditation or light reading can help reduce stress and improve your overall health! Rest can be incredibly beneficial to our mental health.
Some of the benefits of rest include:
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Improved mood
- Decreased blood pressure
- Chronic pain relief
- Increased energy and focus
- Increased creativity
- Improved relationships with others
- Improved immune health
- stronger cardiovascular system
Ty Pinkney's Tips to help you gt the rest you deserve:
Tip #1: Set aside time for rest. Add more time in your day for relaxing activities like reading or meditation.
Tip #2: Assess what makes you happy and prioritize it over what doesn't. Carve out some "me" time with friends.
Tip #3: If all else fails, don't beat yourself up about it! Be kinder to yourself when things don't go according to plan.
Tip #4: Unplug yourself from the busyness and chaos of your surrounding world. Turn off your phone or put it on mute. Ignore social media. Be selfish with your time.
Tip #5: Learn to Say NO!
