Tough Conversations with David Wood

Tough Conversations with David Wood

David Wood

Our mission is Thriving Companies, Great Leaders. Avoiding Tough Conversations as leaders keeps us stuck and small, and is horrendously expensive. Our teams and companies are less engaged, experiencing conflict, and sometimes even quitting. But having Tough Conversations with courage and skill can become the defining moments of our careers, our relationships, and our lives. And employees become happier, thriving contributors who want to stick around because they love their job. David Wood talks with thought leaders like Byron Katie and Jack Canfield, top CEOs, and even prison inmates, to help you identify your Tough-Conversations Waiting-to-Happen, and to have those conversations with confidence and skill. So instead of the conversations blowing up in your face, you will artfully transform them into landmark events that expand your life, business, career, team and company. Tough Conversations = Extraordinary Work Results + Life Results. “The gold lies just on the other side of those scary interactions.” More at http://playforreal.life Key topics: leadership training, team building, engagement, difficult conversations, crucial conversations, team coaching, corporate coaching, executive coaching, team training.

Tough Conversations with David Wood - Rape, Death and Work Insults - From Victim to Sovereign with Saida Desilets
play

04/12/20 • 26 min

Everyone may have a victimization experience in their life. It’s something you can’t control, is usually scary, but it isn’t the same as victimhood. Dr. Saida Desilets tells her powerful story of not only overcoming a traumatic rape and possible death, but also the power of choosing to not be a victim. How can you apply this to your own life?

We also talked about: -What are some common ways we show up as victim? -Do we have a choice to be a victim, or is it choice-less? -What about in the work environment? -What are some subtle ways we slip into victim-hood? -Learn a simple yet powerful way to shift from victim to leader. -How embodied leadership can change everything for you -The power of sitting with who you really are

Dr. Saida Désilets wants to live in a world filled with audacious, sexually sovereign women, living life on their own terms.

Saida is renowned for being the founder of the modern Jade Egg movement and visionary spokesperson for sexual Sovereignty, and has created The Daring Project—assisting women to audaciously move from being a victim to confidently thriving in life.

When she’s not dancing with her husband, you can find Saida leading Wilderness Safaris for women in South Africa or writing deliciously sensual poetry.

Take a listen and let me know what you think in the comments.

It can be a pretty scary world right now for men with the "Me Too" movement hanging over our heads. And it can be challenging for women to set boundaries and still express all of who they are. Saida and I talk about how we can navigate arousal and the masculine and feminine energies in the workplace with truth, openness and dignity on both sides.

We also talked about: -Increase safety by INCREASING arousal -Welcoming your own arousal without requiring reciprocity -I talk about pain from my youth, feeling excluded from the feminine. -How a woman can redirect masculine energy from predator to protector -How men need to speak up and educate their brothers

Tough Conversations with David Wood - Speak with Love or Not at All + Shadow Healing with Matthew Mitchell
play

06/28/20 • 10 min

There's a dark or shadow side to everyone, and often that dark side shows up when we're emotional or have charge with someone. The key is to heal that 'shadow' and communicate with compassion and respect - as difficult as that may be. In this episode, I interview Matthew Mitchell, a transformational speaker and coach I think may be even bolder than I am with speaking his truth. We talk about: -Shadow sides and what shows up in his shadow -What is the shadow and who has one -What made me trust and respect him more -The dangers of not speaking with compassion -Why it's important to speak with love -What I realized was missing from my Tough Conversations model -How to access love, respect and compassion even when you have charge -The importance of knowing where your lines are drawn -The power of modeling behavior -How not to vilify the other person and more.

Are you able to speak with love and compassion when you're in disagreement with someone? I'd love to hear about a conversation you had with love - or one that you wish you did! Drop it in the comments below!

Byron Katie on I’m a Failure – is it True?

Tough Conversations with David Wood

play

10/27/19 • 9 min

David Wood interviews Byron Katie on how handle the negative self talk of “I’m a failure”, “I’m going to fail”, and “What if I fail?”. Specifically, she takes David through a situation he’s freaking about: “Jack Canfield is coming to speak at my life event; what if I can’t sell any tickets and Jack turns up to talk to three people?”. Bring your OWN situation and apply The Work to your specific situation. Byron Katie is an American speaker and author who teaches a method of self-inquiry known as "The Work of Byron Katie" or simply as "The Work": https://thework.com/school-for-the-work-byron-katie/

INTERVIEW NOTES: Where in your life are you worried about failing? Where do you feel like you HAVE failed? Katie dives into the worst situation possible for David, to investigate if it’s true: “I’m a failure”. What’s the impact of that negative thought? Who would you be without that thought? How do you treat Jack when you believe this thought? How can you turn around “I’m a failure”?

BYRON KATIE QUOTES “I don’t know how it gets any more successful than that” “It’s a fearless life”

“The worst that can happen, and the best that can happen, are the same event”

“If you have something of value you offer it, and people come or they don’t. But do you show up?” “Suffering is Optional”
